If you are thinking of buying a digital safe, one of the best holiday safes on the market is the DA3930 Biometric Safe. Straight out of the box, it is claimed to help protect your items from water, fire and theft, and is a secure biometric model for homes and businesses, as it can be set up for multiple users. The DA3930 is a popular safe guard, but does the reputation live up to it? AvidBiometrics.com, a vendor that sells a variety of biometric safes, was kind enough to borrow this safe for a few weeks to test it out. So here it goes.
Ovid
To begin with, the DA3930 offers anti-theft features with 6 locking latches. The locking mechanism is completely biometric and includes an electronic key backup with a tubular key for added security. Also safe remove from water and 2 hours fire protection. ETL is safe and verified to protect the contents from 2 hours of fire, and water resistance is great in the event of a flood, or a fire. where the sprinkler system is activated to extinguish the flames.
Construction
The DA3930 locks feature reinforced steel construction, metal lugs, and 6 snap fasteners to help keep your valuables safe. It is very sleek looking with a black and gunmetal gray finish with very clean hardware. It is designed to be securely bolted to the floor and also comes with mounting hardware. Other safes I spent often extra charge to mount the hardware! To prove this, we covered the plywood safely and found that it was easy to do anything. We achieved this in less than 20 minutes.
Fire Protection
Due to fire code restrictions in our warehouse, we weren’t able to put the safes to the final test, but no worries – well done to the folks at Underwriters Laboratory for doing it for us! This fingerprint safe is UL rated for 2 hours of fire for temperature protection up to 1850 degrees F. It is designed to protect media such as CDs, DVDs, and other electronics from water and fire. Finally, in the event you decide to throw your safe out the window (for whatever reason), it is UL rated for a 30-foot drop test.
Organic purpose
One of the key selling points we’ve tried while reviewing this storage case is that it’s functional and has a variety of features to help you store and organize your documents and valuables. It has a fingerprint safe removal tray that allows you to stack your belongings, or you can remove it for larger items. The tray worked well and fits A-4 size papers and binders perfectly, helping you keep your contents perfectly organized. It also includes a handy key rack on the door so you can easily organize and store your keys. Perfect for highly organized accounts like ourselves. This biometric safe also features a compartment in the door that is perfect for small items such as jewelry or a small clip of cash.
Biometric location
Again, the DA3930’s key selling point is that it uses your fingerprint for entry. We tested over 50 fingerprints and the biometric scanner performed perfectly every time. For the tech savvy – it uses a biometric scanner that produces images at 500 dpi that meet FBI and CIA security standards for reading fingerprints. Very cold.
The DA3930 allows you to have one manager (or administrator) and up to 7 users. The manager has all the ability to control and any user can store 2 digits and each PIN code. Again, this is great for use in a home or office setting where multiple people have access to a secure fingerprint. The DA3930 offers a dual lock construction. What this means is that the secure fingerprint can be opened by scanning or with the user’s PIN software.
Our review
We were very happy using them for a safe week. Our only complaint was that we felt the interior material could be made more solidly and the handle could be a little more solid. Maybe it was a specific model that we tested, but we noticed that many of the safes we tested were safe. Although, the safe is designed for theft protection, we feel it makes a good introductory safe (especially at 135 lbs.) If you’re considering a completely indestructible solid steel safe, you’re generally looking at one that weighs more than 500 lbs. and cost several thousand dollars.
Although these few flaws are minor, the price of this safe is fair. It runs around $400 and is a great introductory safe for anyone looking for secure protection and the awesome functionality of biometric technology.
Again, thanks to AvidBiometric.com for letting us write the DA3930 Watch Review. Greedy carries several dozen fingerprint safes at great prices, so be sure to check them out when you want to save your fingerprints!
