The Shady Maple smorgasbord had humble beginnings as a roadside produce stand. Now, with the hard work of the workers and the motto “give the customer quality food and service and you will have a customer for life”, they have built a successful business, which they confess because of the Lord Jesus Christ. With an expanded capacity of 2000, opened in 2000, the restaurant can now hold up to 500 people. The building is so big that it almost looks like a city of its own!
Even with a large seating capacity there is almost always a line. You can often wait up to an hour to get in. That’s what the conversation was about how much food there is. Everything is homemade, Amish style, and they are sweeter with each new one. If you’re in the mood for salad, you’ll find everything you need to finish it at salad bar.
Pickled eggs, an Amish favorite, and every raw vegetable imaginable, plus potato salad, coleslaw, and more. Place it with a slice of savory bread and seasoned with apple butter or seasoned butter. There are many bread choices including apple cinnamon, red, spinach, blueberry and many others. Each and every village is at the top. Delight!
And this is only the beginning. There are over 40 fresh vegetable and side dishes in the buffet, except for hot seasoned beets, corn, sweet candied. Candied tomatoes, candied yams, sweet potatoes, white macaron and cheese, mashed potato polenta, sweet bean filet with bacon, and more. And the food is great.
You have a selection of different items in the buffet, grilled meats, and several grills for cooking a fresh meal. My favorite is salmon, it’s the main dish on Fridays with a seafood special. There are so many things to choose from on the grill that you can almost make your entire meal without visiting the buffet!
They have every sauce you could possibly need and drink galore. Flavored coffees, teas, plenty of soda choices, juices, and even 7-Eleven Slurpees are included in the price, and like food, you can have as much as you want.
The table is equally elaborate and includes typical selections such as chocolate cakes, cakes, fresh fruit, cookies, brownies; along with Amish favorites like rusk, red velvet cake, cream pie and coconut cream and a scrumptious wealth of other things. Just next to the buffet line they serve hot desserts and soft ice cream with many toppings. With so many choices, you can skip your dinner and go for dessert!
And don’t think that with a large quantity of things quality is sacrificed, because it isn’t. Each item is prepared as if you had just specially ordered it. Shady Maple truly lives up to the high standards you expect from the Amish.
