We take for granted the type of technology that it takes to create the screens on many of our electronics. Amazing technological advances had to happen in order for the ability to shrink screen size to happen. These developments have made it possible for companies to create smaller version of past successful products. Solid examples of this can be seen in the creation of smaller cell phones and music players. The next step in making the visual display smaller was revealed earlier last month in Japan.
Japan hold a yearly electronic exhibition show called the “FDP International 2007. Companies come from around the world to reveal hi-tech gadget projects that they have been developing. Sharp decided to reveal a project that they have been working on for just a little longer than a year. The LCD screen has a thickness of only 0.68mm. This is incredibly small and has to be seen to be believed. Holding the screen in your hand will make you believe that you are holding a piece or two or paper. The size is quite amazing and the fact that a visual display can be created on it is just as astounding.
The current display showcased to the world during the exhibition delivered a contrast display of 2000:1. For a smaller screen design like this one, the contrast is the proper type of display that you want to have. The screen is also 2.2″ inches in size. Basically, what we were shown was the thinnest screen ever developed. I guess you could call it the thinnest LCD screen ever created. This will last until some other company comes alone and creates something even better, but for now this is the next great thing in display technology.
It was quite amazing to see how crisp the picture quality was on the screen. The bright colors and clean picture is what has excited many industry insiders. Experts feel that this screen will be implemented into many of the future cell phone and mobile music devices in the near future. What this means for us is that we will be able to purchase items that can be even more compact. We are always looking for ways to make things smaller and easier to travel with. The small LCD screen will allow this process to take place, something that should excite us all.
Much of the industry is very excited over this latest technological development. LCD screens were once questioned if they would ever be successful. Companies are now seeing that there is not stopping the growth potential of this form of screen. Plasma was called the next big thing, but LCD has taken that title and continued to run with it, thanks in part to developments like this.
Current reports state that the response time of the screen is 8 msec per second. Insiders say that this is really good for a screen because the picture will not fade out and will remain solid. Sharp has created something that has not earned the type of reporting it does deserve. It was my goal to bring this to your attention because you do not want to be surprised when it first comes out. You will not have a little more understanding on this little piece of technology. It will be put into other products sometime next year for release the following year.
