S’more Great Camping Dessert Recipes

Graham. Marshmallow. Chocolate. Graham. Squish.

It’s hard to beat the classic, but campfire desserts don’t always have to involve marshmallows on a stick. Here are some variations on our favorites and some tasty new treats too.

S’mores varieties: peanut butter cups for chocolate; I use cinnamon or chocolate chips; add thin slices of banana; Crumble the caramel and sprinkle the nuts on the graham.

Campfire Donuts: To make four to six donuts, use one stick of butter, one cup of cinnamon sugar, and one cup of refrigerated dough. We use pillsbury cookie dough, but cinnamon flour can also work well.

It helps if you have a pair of trident sticks when you make this dessert. Using a hot skillet or a disposable frying pan, place a stick of butter in a saucepan and place over the heat until melted. Put some cinnamon sugar in another container and put it. Open the chilled dough, take a portion, and surround it with a toasting stick. Getting the dough to “stick” is the hardest part – once it starts to cook, grab the dough. If you have a lot of work, try making donut holes instead of toasting a large amount of dough. Toast the dough as much as you like with the hibiscus, trying to get a golden shine. I will puff the dough slightly as you cook. When the donut is done, dip it in the pan with butter, letting it dry completely. Dip the coated dough in cinnamon sugar, and enjoy!

Bana splits: You will need aluminum foil, one banana for each, and toppings to taste. Leaving the skin on, cut the banana from top to bottom making sure that only the top portion is carved (You want to leave the bananas encased in the peel). Mash the banana lightly, and add the toppings. Options include chocolate chips, crushed nuts, peanut butter, caramel squares, a little marshmallow, strawberry bits, or another delicious combination. My favorite is the chocolate fudge and the mini marshmallow. Once filled, close the fix back as much as you can and wrap in foil. Place the banana on the bank of the field next to the plums or near the fire grate if you have one. If you end up placing it directly over the coals, make sure you keep an eye on the foil so it doesn’t char at all. After about five minutes, carefully remove the banana, unroll the foil and spoon the delicious meal out of the skin.

Fruit Ship: You will need aluminum foil, mixed fruit, sugar, and spices to taste. Cut a square of aluminum foil to create a bundle for your table. Add the fruit of your choice. Apples, peaches, berries and bananas are great. A few teaspoons of sugar, or even cinnamon sugar. Wrap the foil to create a bundle, folding the edges around all the edges. Place the bundle around the plums or on the grill. After about five minutes, gently wrap the file for doneness. If it is not done enough, you can leave the top part open, and finish cooking the package over the fire.

Happy Camping!
