Special Effects Atomic Pink hair dye is absolutely amazing! I have tried many other hair dyes out there, such as Manic Panic, ‘N Rage. Special Effects is labeled as a semi-permanent hair dye, but Atomic Pink will literally not even come out with bleach. Therefore, if you are looking for a put in and wash out in a few days hair dye, you will want to go with one of the other semi-permanent hair dyes. ‘N Rage came out almost completely after 4 washes for me. The color was not spectacular in the first place. Manic Panic does not last very long either. There colors are awesome but fade into very ugly colors. If you are looking for a Pink hair dye that will stay in without having to redye it every 3 or 4 washes, than Atomic Pink is for you. Special Effects does not fade into ugly colors, but fade gradually into lighter pretty shades of your color. Atomic Pink stays vibrant for months. I only have to touch up my roots every month, and I redo my entire head every 3 months. That is pretty amazing!
Atomic Pink is a fushia color—I prefer a little lighter myself, so I mix it with conditioner. Considering the bottles are small-ish…conditioner makes it stretch in volume as well. I bought my bottles from Amazon for about $10 which was very cheap. This brand used to be at Hot Topic, but it has since been replaced with a dye called RAW.
Tips for dying your hair Atomic Pink:
-My hair length is to the middle of my neck, and I require about a bottle and a half if I want good coverage. If you have longer hair you may want to consider buying a few.
-BLEACH, BLEACH, BLEACH. You need to use bleach to get vibrant results. I bleached my hair and it still had some coppery tones to it, and then dyed over with Atomic Pink. It worked, but the coppery tone shows through a little after about a month. If you want your color to stay beautiful for a long time–bleach it until it is almost white.
-You can leave the color on for hours and hours if you want to. You do not have to wash it out with the time frame that the bottle says.
-I have not tried this, but I am told washing your hair with vinegar keeps it in longer.
-If you do not want pink hair for a very long time, do not use this dye. You can dye your hair BLACK and the black will fade and you will still see pink underneath. It is very persistent.
-Do not use shampoo every time you shower. It makes the color run out.
-Apply petroleum jelly around your hairline to prevent skin staining.
-This color stains the tub, sink, your pillows, clothing, EVERYTHING. Make sure to cover everything you can. I have to bleach my tub and sink every time I dye my hair, and it still has a tint in some places.
