When I was a kid and Splash Splash first opened in 1989 I was more than thrilled. My family packed a few essentials for the day and headed into Calverton to get to the water park. I was about 7 years old when I opened it, and when we arrived, I was disappointed. . The ropes were long, and the rules were strictly enforced. This meant that if you were in a lazy river, you had better keep the lure in the inner tube. Then, when the sun was pouring in around your head, you could hardly get wet to cool it. If you jumped into the tube, you had all the attendants jumping into the water, whistling and shouting. So here at the water park, all this water was fabulous, but I couldn’t go in it. Great! Fun!
He figured that as the years passed he wanted to improve the water park, and he did. Over time, the park added more slides, more attractions, and seemingly more fun-activities. I went with my sister and her kids, we were left by the lazy river and the kids were happily walking around doing what they do best… having fun.
Admission was $33.99, a bit steep for adults to pay seeing as most attractions are designed for kids, and most adults just go for the kids. Prices are discounted for seniors and trains, and also discounts if they close before 3 hours. There is also a discount on tickets if you purchase them online. (15%).
In the park I was greeted with the same mud as I remember as a kid, just with a few new slides, pools, and drops of water. All these new attractions, though, seemed too dangerous for an adult. I remember scraping my knees until I went down one water slide into a pool that was too shallow for me, and I was. 7. It should have been easy for my little body to adjust at that time, but I still left with a scraped knee.
I wanted to try this first even though it was a lazy stream. I remember yelling at the guards to dip out of my tube to cool off, and this time in the adult years, if one punk ass little teenager He tried to tell me that there were problems to jump over my tube. I was given a ridiculously large tube in the lazy river, and slowly paddled with my sister until I warmed up. then I plunged into the water, and looked around. Oh, the guards saw me, but they didn’t dare blow the whistle. I guess it drives the kids deeper, which is a good thing if I think about it now. Ok, so one thing was perfect…test 2 was to see if they had improved the depth of the pool to ride in the cliff diver, where I scraped my knee when I was a kid.
After waiting in the hot line for half an hour, I got up and was ready to slide down the 8 story high ladder. I must say that I looked at the knot tied in my stomach, and I knew that my bating bottom would weedgie so far into my behind that it would make my butt bleed. I flew down the slope, almost suddenly hitting the bottom. My head is hit rock bottom hard and yep, it hurts, and I’ve gone far in a bathing suit yep. into my colony
I could easily see how the kids could scrape their knees like I once did, or worse, a bloody crack. The water depth was still press and did not provide a cushion to crash.
In surf city even the wave of the lake was poor. This must attract in additional years, because it was not present years ago. This pool is mostly occupied by children, and the reason is that the height of the water is not higher than 3 feet. The laurel equals the waves on a calm day. No worries or fears are created.
Most of the rides and attractions here, as I said before, are designed for kids, but they are still not 1005 safe. Abraded knees are easy as she flies and glides. What pisses me off the most about Splish is that there isn’t a single tank in place of the cooler. As an adult, these slides are somewhat fun, but when I pay $33.99 plus tax to enter a whole kiddie park I expect some time for myself. The great lake of football. I like getting wet when I go to the water park, not just splashed. A giant pool with a few slides, and I give the tables I wanted. And the ponds that are present are destined from the falls to the port, and after that you must immediately swim out of them and wait in line again. Yippie!
If any of you dopey Splish handlers are reading, hear my case… for friggin’ luck. High one! Some pathetic lake 3 feet not small where I have to swim in 4 seconds or some kid will comeGetting close to my head if I’m not quick enough.
In addition to mud puddles and bad slides, Splish Splash also has souvenir shops, food shops, and snack bars. For a nice map visit http://www.splishsplashlongisland.com/attractions/. I know it all looks good on paper, but to be honest it’s not.
Now aside from moaning, I figured I should mention that my niece and nephew also have breastfeeding time. My youngest niece was too small to ride in any of the bigger rides, so she had no choice but to ride in the kiddie rides, which were too kiddie for her. Short is 5 years old, not a toddler, and mostly lame. kiddie rides are designed with itty toddlers in mind, not 5-6 year old shorties. So his age group ran into Pirate Cove splashing other kids in the face with a stream of pumped water that was pumped out of cannons. However, these tortures occur in some squirt to the eye with highly chlorinated water. From where he cries, sometimes even a physical fight between the two children. Fun times! Wow!
It’s understandable that it’s too small for a big kid ride, but honestly the park needs to consider this age group a little more than they do.
My nephew complained about the lines, and within a few hours we were packing up and leaving. A beautiful day is coming. We just went to the beach with squirt guns. We could have more fun.
I have no idea why the Travel Channel voted Splash Splash the worlds largest water park, there was nothing big about it. I was greeted by long lines, low marshes at the far end, and a dirty park. Wow!
