St. Patrick’s Day Craft Ideas: Polka Dot Shamrock Card

One of the greatest things about making handmade holiday cards is the ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary! This fun polka dot shamrock card turns a plain clover into a fun, patterned print that will make the receiver of this card definitely smile. Make one as a singular gift, or make several to give as a St. Patrick’s Day gift set!

For this project, you will need:

– Dark green cardstock

– Light green vellum paper

– Decorative edge scissors

– Regular scissors

– Elmer’s glue stick

– Pencil

– Ruler

– Shamrock stencil (optional)

– Glue stick

– 7 Gypsies “5th Avenue Manhattan” Print Scrapbook Paper (found in stores or online at Paper Addict)

– Gold colored ink pad

– Shrink paper

– Typewriter print alphabet rubber stamps

The first step of this project is to fold the dark green cardstock into a greeting card shape. If you want a smaller or more conformed card, you can trim the cardstock with scissors to your desired size. Or, simply purchase a pre-folded piece of greeting card paper found at craft and scrapbook paper stores.

If you are using a shamrock stencil, lay it flat on the 7 Gypsies “5th Avenue Manhattan” Print Scrapbook Paper and trace the shape in pencil. (You can also hand draw the shape if you do not want to use a stencil.) With regular scissors, cut the shamrock shape out. Adhere the green polka dot shamrock shape to the front of the greeting card with a glue stick. Let the glue dry completely.

Lay the shrink paper flat on your workspace. Using the typewriter print alphabet stamps and a gold colored ink pad, spell out the words “Happy St. Patrick’s Day”. Make sure the words are spaced pretty far apart. Cut out each word individually using decorative edge scissors. Shrink the paper according to the manufacturer directions. Cool completely.

Glue the words underneath the polka dot shamrock on the card using the glue stick. Dry for a half hour or longer.

Using the ruler, measure and mark a piece of gold colored vellum paper that is 1/4 inch around smaller than the inside half of the card. Cut out the gold rectangle with decorative edge scissors. Carefully mat the gold vellum paper to the inside of the card with a glue stick.

Let the inside glue dry completely. Fill in your favorite St. Patrick’s Day message and give the card to a loved one this March 17th!
