This particular collectible item is a Target exclusive. This Star Wars toy is a model of the Imperial Shuttle that was in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The Imperial Shuttle came out on Black Friday, and there were suppose to be limited quantities of it, however, all of the Target stores that I’ve been in as of late, still have a few of them left. This would make an excellent Christmas gift for the Star Wars collector in your life. It would also make a great gift for a child who likes Star Wars.
The ship is really big. I suppose that is an understatement. When we pulled it out of the package, we were a little stunned by the size of it. Actually, the size of the box should have been a warning as to how big the ship itself was going to be. It measures about two feet tall and two and a half feet wide when the wings are folded down. However, when the wings are up, the ship takes up less space, so it’s not difficult to find a spot on a shelf for it. With the wings up it’s about a foot across at the widest point, however, the feet that it sits on are less than seven inches apart, so it really doesn’t take up very much space.
There is a handle that makes up the front leg that the ship sits on, that has a trigger on it to release the fold down wings. There are no projectiles as a part of this ship. So you don’t need to worry about your child hitting their younger sibling in the eyes with plastic missiles. Although the Imperial Shuttle doesn’t have any projectiles, each wing does have adjustable laser cannons.
The Imperial Shuttle has many moving parts. Besides the wings folding up and down, the loading ramp on the front opens and extends down, the cockpit opens and seats two figures, and there is a side panel that is removable that allows access to the inside of the shuttle.
The Imperial Shuttle comes with two figures, a Darth Vader wearing a cloth cape, which was ten dollars when it was originally released by itself, and a Crimson Guard figure. Both figures come with some accessories. Darth Vader comes with his red lightsaber, the blade is not removable from the hilt. But this isn’t a problem, because it also comes with a hilt that attaches to his belt. The Crimson Guard figure comes with an electrostaff and a removable piece of “lightening” that attaches to the electrostaff.
The price tag for the Imperial Shuttle is a little hefty, but is well worth it considering the size of the ship and the two figures that it comes with. It cost $59.99 and I feel that it is worth every penny. One last thing is that a model like this Imperial Shuttle has only been released once before, and that was in 2002 and it was a hundred dollars. At that time it was an FAO Schwartz limited exclusive and did not come with any figures.
