Stress Relief with Tai Chi

In January 2003, I started going to Tai Chi classes, which were offered on the lunch hour. My aunt has been doing Tai Chi for a while, and she told me that it was really great for relieving stress and being mindful in certain situations. I wanted to learn more about him, so when the opportunity came, I jumped at it. The experience was more than I could ever imagine.

On the first day, we warmed up all the muscle groups in the body , from the neck and shoulders to the ankles. I work at my desk most of the day (when I’m not in a meeting), and I move my body around like that which felt amazing. In the said and just that fermentation! Then he did some imagination and work. I thought to myself, “Well, this isn’t going to be much.” How bad I am! Not only were we using our minds to think, but we were also watching our breath, and they were standing still! That kind of multitasking is beautiful when he doesn’t focus on it, but he does all three and it was a challenge in each one. It’s a slow-moving genre and you’re focused on every action you take, whether you’re feeling every step you take or drawing sketches in the air around you. The instructor then allowed us some “play time” where we could go through the moves we learned in our class and make our own. When the hour-long class was over, my mind felt like an undeserved break, and my body felt relaxed and refreshed. I was ready to tackle my workload this afternoon.

Since this day I have done Tai Chi in my work clothes and workout gear, in sneakers and barefoot, outside in the fresh air and sun, at work, at home, in the car, in grocery lines, wherever I can find a minute to be mindful of my breathing and movement.

So what is Tai Chi? It is a mind-body practice that was developed in ancient China. At first, Tai chi was used for self-defense.
