String Art, Decor and Craft Projects

You probably have string, threads, braids or other things you need for tying, sewing and other things, but did you know that string is also good for many decoration, art and craft projects? The thread is also cheap, so you can use miles of it without racking up a huge tab on craft supplies. One type of thread that works really well is tatting or crochet thread. It is thick enough to make elaborate designs but thin enough to easily access decorative surfaces or art surfaces.

Most everyone has seen “wire art,” which usually consists of a piece of silk on a wall, hammered with tiny nails, and a string artfully stretched between the nails. These are easily done by placing the nails on the wall, using a coloring page or another image as a model. You can also purchase these patterns online and add your own nails and strings. They finish very nicely and make a lovely addition decorating a bed or even a bedroom.

It’s much easier to make crafts and crafts using thread, glue and paint. Wrap the wire around the vase to hold it in place using the glue, then paint the vase after the glue has dried. Then the vessel will look like ridges and grooves. You can also place string randomly on the projected surface and paint it for a completely different look.

It is not absolutely necessary to use a surface with string and glue – the adhesions are especially clear when dry – but the string will have its original color and will look more like a string than an intricate part of the original.

The string and glue design can be done on most ceramics, pieces of wood, cloth, plastic and metal. In fact, there are few surfaces that a string does not stick to, with its own adhesive. This makes it easy to incorporate string art into many existing pieces of decor.

You can make particular designs with yarn, such as a flower or a rainbow, to transfer the design to the design you are working on. Hair sprays keep the strands in shape while sliding them out of the foil or wax paper onto the project. Alternatively, give the surface of the project a coat of paint, place a string in the design of your choice, before painting on a second coat. The first coat of paint allows you to move the wire around the strings, using pliers, toothpicks and other aids, to hold it in place while you add the second coat.

There are many crafts that you can quickly make with string. Paint the wall half blue and half white, arrange the string in the shapes of ships and shells, then paint again. The string shapes are prominent and easy on the canvas. Choose a design that will fit in your decor using the same technique.

Use string, glue and paint to create new designs for heads, wreaths, lamps, trees, mantles, fronts, picture frames, toy boxes, wooden chairs, cardboard boxes and more crafts. You will find many projects that you can make using yarn, and it’s so fun and easy, you’ll want to make more in the future.
