StriVectin is a product made by Klein-Becker and was originally intended to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. While it definitely received fine reviews for helping with stretch marks, it later became better known as a wrinkle cream. Those who had bought it for the purpose of reducing stretch marks were the among the first to notice a great reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. But how did this happen? Here’s some history about the StriVectin story, and in particular, a product review of StriVectin-HS, (hydro-thermal deep wrinkle serum).
History
As mentioned, the original intention of StriVectin was to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Employees of Klein-Becker took samples of the cream home and many started using it as a topical cream and face moisturizer. The sample tubes were only marked as ‘topical cream’ with lot numbers underneath that. As such, this innocent mistake was about to make history for Klein-Becker.
Still, StriVectin was marketed as a cream for stretch marks. Then in 2002 at a meeting of the 20th World Congress of Dermatology in Paris, France studies were presented detailing the ability of a patented oligo-peptide “called Pal-KTTKS” and how it faired against retinol. The results highly favored the peptide formula over the retinol.
As the makers of StriVectin realized that oligo-peptide was a key ingredient in StriVectin they realized they were onto something. As such the creation of the StriVectin skin line for the treatment of wrinkles and signs of aging was developed. Word about StriVectin spread like wildfire and people raved about its awesome capabilities of reducing wrinkles and evening out skin imperfections.
StriVectin-HS
Klein-Becker states that StriVectin – HS Hydro-Thermal Deep Wrinkle Serum is the only thermophyllic serum which reduces the appearance of deep wrinkles, skin surface imperfections and enlarged pores.
A 0.9 ounce bottle of StriVectin costs $153.00 and should deliver at least 28 facial applications. Of course, that depends on how much you use and where you apply it.
You apply the serum to the wrinkles around your eyes, brow, and mouth and then spread the remaining over your face. After waiting for the serum to dry, (about 1-3 minutes), you take a washcloth as warm as you can stand it, wring it out, then place it over the sections of skin that have the serum on it. The cloth should be left on the skin until it begins to cool.
After completing all areas of your skin like this, the process is finished until the next day.
My Take on StriVectin – HS
When I first saw StriVectin – HS at Dillard’s, I found an employee to help me understand the product. I had to know before I spent $153 that it was going to work. Of course, the faithful employ promised superior results and assured me they couldn’t keep enough of it on the shelves.
So, after using StriVectin – HS for six weeks, I must say there was a noticeable improvement in the appearance of my wrinkles. Additionally, my pores were smaller and the texture of my skin across my nose and cheeks was definitely smoother.
But was I willing to go out and spend $153 again? No. Unfortunately, I could not justify spending that kind of money when a dermabrasion treatment at the Skin Care Center cost $75 and produced better and longer lasting results. I also treat myself to a chemical peel every 3 months for $150 and the results are outstanding.
An additional factor in my decision not to continue with StriVectin is the amount of time involved. Simply call me lazy – but I am able to have a onetime treatment that cost less and has better results for a 3 month period.
