The New York Italian Mafia is a highly complex, tight-knit family group that operates under a strict plan. The Italian Mafia also has a hierarchical structure called La Cosa Nostra in our media, which is formal like most legal organizations and businesses. The national structure of Italian mafias consists of a boss or god father under the boss, Consigliere or advisor, Caporegime known as Capo or captain, soldiers and associates.
The boss is the head of the entire family, who creates laws and policies, dictates the organization of business operations, and receives the income as a percentage of the income received by all members within the family. He was appointed under the boss by God the Father and second in authority. Under the boss, he reports all the orders and information that were made by the main boss and from the members, he is in charge of the leaders, and in case the head boss cannot be present because of illness, prison, etc. he will be under the boss, either temporarily or permanently, I will replace the main boss, so new families will become God the father (University of Phoenix, 2010).
The counselor is one of the most trusted persons within the family. A consigliere is a family counselor who deals with internal and external disputes, attends family meetings, and tries to do family business The works appear to be legitimate. In addition, Councilors may have more political and legal connections, professional services, such as lawyers or stock brokers, and refrain from participating in and undertaking unethical activities (University of Phoenix, 2010).
A caporegime or captain takes care of a small group of soldiers that varies between six and nine members. The captain remains and adheres to all rules and regulations from the main boss. In addition, the Caporegime obtains a formal vote and is sworn in as a legitimate member of the family. Every member of the Cosana Nostra family, apart from the partners, is formally accepted by the main boss and the sub-boss. The Caporegime is responsible for obtaining new methods of family organization and returns to God the Father (Mafia Today 2010).
The lowest Italian Mafia is more solid. But in order to obtain this, there are a few very important things to be done. First, any person who is considered for a more solid position must be of Italian background. Secondly, all the soldiers must join the comrades, and prove themselves to the captain, under the boss and God the father. Third, there must be an open slot for the individual to run to the solider. Fourth, an interview with the boss and the main boss between all the candidates should take place where voting will be done for the best candidate (Mafia today, 2010).
Although the member appears to be a member of the Italian Mafia, he is not a member. Members are individuals who wish to become members, or individuals who simply make a connection with the family by performing specific tasks, such as running errands. At the last level, the Mafia family soldiers and associates were lying. The structure of the soldiers and allies is loose and the network has become a spider’s web as a means to evade the detection and apprehension of law enforcement, and to protect the bottom line of organizations. In these two orders, in detail, it is allowed to conduct business domestically and internationally, to obtain contacts with other organized crime groups and organizations; they engage in many forms of illegal activity, such as drug sales and trafficking. This is allowed as long as the business is being carried out, the organization is profitable and it is not necessary to attend to the organization (Mafia Today, 2010).
The old school Mafia leaders were afraid to get involved with the illegal drug trade and generally stayed traditional with the illegal activity organizations. As the world evolves today’s Mafia leaders are quick to discover the benefits of the illegal drug trade. The sale of cocaine, crack, heroin, methamphetamine, LSD, and marijuana proved too lucrative to ignore, and this in turn created a new Mafia world. The Mafia uses numerous methods that allow it to move business smoothly without any problems. Vehicles, ships, air crafts, and motor-vehicles are just a few of the ways in which drugs are used. crossing the border Political leaders and government officials are offered substantial amounts of money, political power, or protection in order to condone and assist the Mafia’s illegal drug trade.
The result is a highly organized and well-developed criminal organization that helps both legitimate and illegitimate workers to maintain profits. No criminal organization is the same and each one is unique. The document was explored and discussed by La Cosa Nostra, a New York-based Italian criminal organization known as the Mafia. Consultation of national and multinational group structures and working methods related to the illegal drug business.
