With summer right around the corner in Indianapolis, Indiana you are going to want to get out and enjoy the weather. Well don’t you worry there is plenty to do in Indianapolis during the summer time! From fairs to festivals, this city has plenty to keep you entertained.
First let start with the fair, and it’s not just the Indianapolis fair, it’s the Indiana State Fair! The state fair normally takes place in August, dates and times may vary so visit their website for all the info. Ticket prices may change but recently tickets for adults were $8 and kids $5. The state fair has something for everyone. From their antique tractor show, to the 4H Education shows and the home art exhibit. Let’s not forget all the livestock that will be at the fair. From cows and horses, to birds and rabbits it’s all there, plus they have a nursery for new babies that any kids would love to see. During the fair they will have a few concerts that will cost extra to get into but will be well worth it, tickets will range from $30 – $70. Who is putting on concerts? Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, Sugarland with Joe Nichols, and Garrison Keillor. Let’s not forget all the performances put on by local groups too. This fair so something to see and do for everyone.
Do you like movies? Well then you don’t want to miss the Indianapolis Film Festival. This event takes place the end of April threw the beginning of May. Check their website for exact dates and times. There is normally about 70 or so films that partake in the festival. These films spread across every genre, and age group. The tickets cost about $10 per show and are well worth it for the movies you will see!
Now since we are talking about Indianapolis we do have to mention the Indy 500! This event takes place the end of May and has been doing so for over 90 years! For the exact date and ticket info visit their website. In Indianapolis this event is a huge one. You can watch all the qualifying, practice, and partake in all the events leading up to race day! Tickets range from $40 to $150 or more. Tickets sell out quick so you want to get them while you can.
Indianapolis downtown also has 3 summer parades you may want to check out. The first one is the On Procession Art Parade. Tickets are free and this event takes place the end of April. Next is the IPL 500 Festival Parade. This one takes place toward the end of May and you do need tickets. VIP tickets are about $30, Reserved Chair tickets are about $17 & Reserved Bleacher tickets are about $13.50. Then there is the Labor Day Parade which takes place on Labor Day, in the end of august. This one is free admission too.
