Super Evil is the latest production from the directorial effort of Judd Apatow, whose previous films include Culsit and A 40-Year-Old Virgin,. i> In a similar vein to his previous works, this film centers on a group of unlikely heroes trying to become more successful in the ways of love, life, and contemporary academic culture.
The central theme of Superbad centers on the activities of Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) who are trying to enjoy their last moments of high school before starting college life. These ending days of high school life are often considered to be the best opportunity for parties, so the students in the movies carefully raise the events to highlight this special occasion. Seth and Evany consider this prospect as their first opportunity to seduce their female contemporaries. Seth emphasizes the meaning of this incident when he proclaims to Evang: “We can be wrong who will regret the girls!” Unfortunately, of course, Seth and Evan are by no means considered popular; Evan is intelligent, but is often thought of by his peers as nerdy, while Seth is overweight and enjoys reserved pornographic material.
Seth talks to Jules, who is portrayed by Emma Stone, about improving her negative fortunes throughout the film. In an attempt to impress her, he presents himself as a boisterous man who often attends parties and has strong taste For the bow This thing was done successfully; He orders him to get caffeine liquor in an effort to “liven up the festivities.” He is immediately moved by this propitiatory message to Evanone, who makes a special request for a potion to impress Becca, a girl who has also been beaten. As they begin their search for the babies and the booze, they encounter Fogle, who gets a fake identity with the intention of using it to buy liquor. When he doesn’t initially, Seth investigates the matter. This single event quickly turns into a series of hilarity that will change the lives of all three of the film’s protagonists.
Film reviewers who observed this production were quick to draw comparisons to other trend-led films such as Freaks & Geeks, Knocked Up, Hardly Wait, and American Graffiti. This comparison is apt, although personal observations lead me to associate this production with American Pie< /i >. I believe this is due to similar plot details that are improbable for characters trying to achieve success in the sexual arena. Face it, the three central characters’ personalities are remarkably comparable to the characters in American Pie. For example, the intelligence of Evan and Fogle (both of whom are admitted to Dartmouth University) and their relative maturity draw parallels with Paul Finch, the “sophisticated” man who fired Steven Stifler on various occasions. Also, Seth’s gross attitude and obsession with pornography make him analogous to Stifler’s delusional antics; however, his relative shyness around the opposite sex mentions Jim Levenstein, who is represented by Jason Biggs. While these comparisons are satisfying for people who proclaim themselves as moviegoers, it also allows a certain degree of predictability to prevail for people who expect each of Apatow’s productions to be different from one another.
Although these similarities are apparent to other films, Superbad can easily be recommended to those who have a strong affinity for indecency This movie deserves three out of four stars.
