I have had the privilege of attending several shows at the Surflight Theatre in Beach Haven, New Jersey. I am a lucky gal to live minutes away from Long Beach Island, New Jersey. One of the reasons why I am so lucky is the Surflight Theatre. Established in 1950 in Beach Haven Crest, the Surflight Theatre has a long and colorful history. From it’s humble beginnings of a cast of only sixty and a twelve piece orchestra, the Surflight Theatre has evolved into the magnificent landmark of the Jersey shore that it is today.
The Surflight Theatre is located at Engleside Avenue, Beach Haven, New Jersey. A mid sized theatre with friendly employees and comfortable seating, it is a wonderful theatre to enjoy a show. Long Beach Island is a popular tourist vacation area and is immensely popular with the thousands of vacationers that frequent the island in the summer. Although the many businesses on the island rely on the tourists to put them in the black each year, the Surflight Theatre is greatly appreciated by the year round residents of LBI and the surrounding areas.
The Surflight Theatre presents many popular musicals throughout their season which typically runs from Memorial Day through December. The highlight of the theatre season at the Surflight Theatre is always “A Christmas Carol” which is presented every Christmas season. A fabulous show which can not help but put every patron in the Christmas spirit.
Surflight Theatre presents entertainment for adults and children alike. Children’s theatre is available from Wednesday through Sunday. I have taken my daughters to see “Beauty And The Beast” and “Cinderella” at the Suflight Theatre. Both were top notch productions. The Children’s Theatre productions strives to include the young theatre goers in the show and feature an interactive portion of the productions where the interested children are invited up to the stage to interact with the actors and actresses.
I attended productions of “Meet Me In St. Louis,” and “West Side Story,” at the Surflight Theatre with a group of friends and was impressed with the professionalism and talent of the cast. The Our Gang Players, which is a local South Jersey theatre group put on wonderful shows that could not be easily improved upon.
An upcoming Surflight Theatre production will be, “They’re Playing Our Song,” which will star Kevin Spirtas. Kevin Spirtas is a professional actor who appeared for more than seven years on the NBC daytime serial, Days of Our Lives. Kevin Spirtas portrayed the character of Craig Wesley. “They’re Playing Our Song” will run through September, 2007.
Tickets for the Surflight Theatre are incredibly reasonable. Adult tickets are $27.00 and children’s tickets are $17.00. Less expensive tickets are available for the matinee productions. Children’s theatre tickets are even more affordable at $9.00 per ticket.
