Spring Breaks are a great time to take a family day trip to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, and that’s what we do every year! Exotic animals, beautiful fauna and flora, and a magical butterfly experience await visitors, but there is more! A stingray petting tank, the Park and Splash Ground, a train ride, and panther feeding among many other exhibits are sure to offer fun and excitement for young and old. With so many things to see and do, it’s easy to spend an entire day at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens!
Animals
There are so many spectacular animals to visit at the Jacksonville Zoo, and it strives to preserve the natural environment of these animals as much as possible. We always start our day trip with the African Loop and make our way around the zoo. This way we know that none of the exhibits will be missing.
African Loop — A 1,400-foot-tall ride takes visitors through the plains of East Africa to experience animals such as cheetahs, zebras, rhinoceroses, ostriches, warthogs, ostriches, and bongos roaming in large numbers; open environment, and if you’re lucky, like I was on my last visit, you’ll even get popped in a low bird! Next to MARMORA is the reptile building, where some of the world’s most destructive snakes live. Before leaving the East African Plains, guests can also cool off watching elephants in their 275,000-gallon pond, taking in lions on an acre of land, or a couple of highly endangered cheetahs in the shade of desire. Monkeys and pigeons also entertain crowds by jumping through the trees near the lion’s entrance.
Stingray Bay – In this unique, interactive exhibit, guests feed and enjoy delicious live stingrays swimming freely in a shallow pool< /a>, they exhibit the likeness of the Sea of the World. There is a $2.00 admission fee to enter, and stingray food at an extra cost.
Giraffe Overlook – One of the most fun exhibits at the Jacksonville Zoo, and certainly my favorite, is the Panther Overlook, which features an elevated level where guests can come face-to-face with these beautiful, peaceful creatures. animals in their 2.5-acre home. For $3.00 guests can feed the hundreds that come up to the curse. This is, by far, the best experience at the park and something our son loved!
Jaguar Range – Visitors to the Zoo will be brought to the edge of the lost rain forest and visit the ruined Mayan temple “a two-time national award winning exhibit of South American jaguars.” In addition to jaguars, visitors can see giant antelopes, howler monkeys, unique fish and reptiles, pygmy marmosets, and more.
Australian Adventure – This exhibit, sponsored by Outback Steakhouse, features predated forms, wallabies, cassowaries, and beautifully colored lorikeets in a free-flying aviary where guests can koi ponds, Lotus Ponds, and Bridges of the Moon , zoo-goers can visit the Komodo dragons living in the Monsoon Asia exhibit.
Tuxedo Coast – Inside the Play Park, Tuxedo Coast is home to several different species of penguins that can be seen up close and personal.
Large bees – The large bee exhibit is home to white-ringed and black-and-white ruffed lemurs, colobus monkeys, mandrills, western lesser baboons, bonobos, and siamangs.
Wildlands – This features 2.5 acres of wetlands and is home to plants and animals native to Florida, such as alligators, black bears, cranes, bald eagles, bob cats, panthers, white-tailed deer, and night owls. Guests can also visit the Reptile House Wild Florida. Alligators every Saturday at a.m. 2:15 they are fed. from mid-March through November.
Interactive Fun for Kids
The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is not comprised of just animal exhibits and botanical gardens. There are several attractions designed with children in mind. The Game Park and Splash Ground are 2.5 acres of fun for kids. There are two high-level labyrinths for children, a stone wall and a playground, an animal care space where kids can groom and pet pigmy goats, and a large tree house that is ideal for climbing. Then, when the kids are ready to cool off, they can enjoy 4,000 squat foot watering the ground where they are. running, climbing, splashing, whales, manatees, and other sea life catching the immense streams of water. Splash Land is open from mid-March to the end of September, weather permitting, starting at 10:00 p.m. every day There is no separate fee for this cool attraction! Washing in the shower outside is required before washing the ground, and diapered babies must take off their diapers when swimming. Outside play is a full carousel park. Ready to spend $2.00 per rider for two years.
Butterfly Cave is the newest show at the zoo, and it’s definitely one of the most magical for kids. We love this 8500 square foot wander full of hundreds of butterflies, garden paths, galleries, water features, and full displays. garden gnomes and the aforementioned. Several different butterflies landed on us, and we took these very exquisite creatures very close. Butterfly Coelen is only open on September 9, starting at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $2.00 to enter the butterfly exhibit.
Finally, visitors can see the zoo aboard the Zoo Train, which transports guests around the entire perimeter of the zoo and makes stops at the main store and camp, where guests can unload and explore the zoo at their own pace. It’s $4.00 for adults, $2.00 for kids, and is good all day, weather permitting.
