Tea Tree Oil: My Story

Tea Tree Oil is one of my favorite natural remedies and has a special place of honor in our home. Whenever the kids have a cut, shave, or rash, they ask us to fix their boo-boo, grab a bottle of this special oil and some cotton balls. I don’t know how many people are familiar with Tea Tree oil, so I will introduce you to the basics.

Melaleuca Alternifolia, better known as the tea tree, originates from a tree in Australia. The natives valued this essential-oil for its curative properties. After Europeans arrived in Australia, the oil was discovered to have anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and astringent properties. During WWII, Australian soldiers used tea tree oil as part of their shoes. Australia has set standards for tea tree oil. When buying an oil, it should have more than 30% terpineol-4-ol and less than 15% 1,8-cineole.

Tea tree oil was first introduced in 1995 by a co-operator who was a distributor for a company that sold whole tea tree oil products. I had burnt my hand and was in a huge amount of pain. I went to work that night and my assistant noticed my hand was tied and asked what was wrong. I explained what had happened, and he got up and asked the boss to apologize. He soon returned with two bottles and some tissues. I was hesitant to say the least. He put out one bottle of tea tree oil and another bottle of vitamin E oil. he himself mixed a few drops in a cup, and fixed the tissue in the mixture, and applied it to the burning. I was amazed! The pain is gone. I went home and when I got up in the morning, the burn was almost completely healed!

I had more information about this oil. The next day I saw my assistant again. He asked me to come to his house after work so that I could buy a bottle of tea tree oil and some more of the products he carries in his company. I got the info home and told hubby. I continued to apply the tea tree oil mixture to the burn and within a week my hand couldn’t burn. I was sure it would leave a nasty scar. We are definitely impressed.

I bought more oil to keep in the house and through research found a multitude of uses for this miracle oil. About a month after the first experience with the oil, my son developed an inner ear infection. He had a bad case of recurrent ear infection and had been on antibiotics for several years. I felt that my immunity to antibiotics had developed because they no longer seemed to help. He is on a round of antibiotics and should be back in a few weeks. My child was unhappy, and the doctor suggested that we put tubes in his ears. I didn’t want that to happen.

I had read that Tea Tree Oil has antibacterial properties, and that the oil has been successfully used to treat ear infections. I was at my wits end and decided to give it a try. In a small dish mix 1-2 drops of tea tree oil to 4-6 drops of essential oil. Then I took a ball of cotton and soaked it in the mixture. I took the saturated ball and packed the ears. He had a infection on both sides, so I used cotton packs on both ears. I replaced the packs every 4-6 hours, and within 3-4 days the infection was gone! My son had occasional infections, but they became less and less frequent. Eventually the infections stopped, and we didn’t have to use antibiotics for inner ear infections.

I have used the oil pink>eye, ringworm, athlete’s foot fungus, acne, scrapes, cuts, sinuses, throats , thrush, mouth, cold sores, scabies, and infected feet. I’ve used products like toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, soap, and face wash that have great tea tree oil in it. In the following articles I will explain how I have successfully used tea tree oil to treat my family members without having to run to the doctor for every ailment they experience.

I must include a disclaimer. You should do your research before using home remedies. Tea tree oil is for external use and should never be ingested. Tea Tree Oil is very caustic and should always be mixed with carrier oil when used externally. We did this wrong with our daughter, and she had allergic-a>, which sent her to the emergency room. We normally use carrier oil oil, but we have used almond oil and vitamin E with good results. There is a ton of good information missing on the internet. It will be useful for you to check my antidotes before using home remedy. You should seek a doctor’s advice, but be advised that most doctors refuse natural traditional medicines. Ultimately, you will have to decide the best course of action for you and your family. We went against the grain and my family is better. It is your decision.
