Techniques and Tips for Rabbit Hunting Without a Dog

There are few hunting activities that can compare to hunting a rabbit. Unlike most hunting, it doesn’t really matter if you keep quiet. Plus rabbit hunting is usually better with a friend or two or more. Rabbit hunting allows a lot of time to socialize, talk, and have a good time followed by crazy moments chasing a rabbit. It is not necessary to use a dog or two as a method for hunting. As more and more people moved to urban areas, it became more difficult for them to keep a hunting dog. While I live in rural West Virginia and own a dog, he spends most of his life sleeping in his bed. the only thing that follows is when the cat goes to chew toys.

Hunting without a dog requires the hunter to do all his work. Without the benefit of a keen sense of smell and dogmas, the hunter must search every pile of brush that resembles a hare. Getting a rabbit out of a small pile of brush is relatively simple. Just walk into the pile and be ready to shoot when the rabbit scoots. They’ll often sit tight until you’ve almost stepped on them, so it’s likely to be moved in a good pile before running to the next place. When the brush piles are too large or dense, they physically step in or step into the temptation to kick the brush and shake them off as much as possible. Another alternative is to just throw rocks and stick them in a pile. For the hunter, without a dog, preferred the fields to the brush, as hedges and hedges of the roads of the country. Huge areas of very dense brush just offer too many places for the hare to escape and without a dog to continue the hunt is pretty pointless hunting.

Here are a few other helpful tips when hunting a rabbit without a dog. Feel how likely you are to approach the brush pile. You want the rabbit to jump in an open area so you can get a chance to shoot. When hunting with others be sure to wear flaming orange so you can easily track everyone else’s tracks.

If you hunt with a .22 or similar rifle, there are usually plenty of shots in the brush. You will find a high place overlooking an open area. Sit still and watch the tunnels exiting the clearing. If you shoot one, pay attention to where it is and sit another one out in the same area.

So whether you have a dog or not, rabbit hunting can be a fun and rewarding activity. Finally, a rabbit cut by a bush but a hot barbeque can relieve a lot of pain.
