These are some useful guidelines for when to speak Spanish.
A great idea in learning how to tell time in Spanish is to review the word ser, which will be important in the examples to come.
Present Tense form Ser

In Spanish, telling time follows the singular or plural form depending on whether the number is singular or plural. dos – teach). Time is always expressed in the feminine form.
Singular
Es la (time)

Example #1
1:00
Check whether the singular or plural form is needed.
When it is singular, Es la (time) is needed. One must be inserted instead.
Answer = You are one.
Example #2
5:00
Check whether the singular or plural form of the number is needed.
Because cinco is plural, Son las (time) is needed. Five to be inserted (time) slot.
Answer = Son las cinco

Rule #1
From the hour to the half hour, minutes are added in the plural or singular form.
Example 1
5:10
1. Check to see if the singular or plural form is needed.
Cinco is plural, so the plural form is needed.
The son of Cinco.
2. Check to see how many minutes are added. The format for adding minutes is as follows.
son las (time) + y (minutes)
Diez inserted a minute spot.
Answer = Son las cinco y diez
Example #2
8:25
1. Check to see if the singular or plural form is needed.
So the plural form of Ocho is needed.
2. See how many minutes to add.
Twenty-one minutes of formula must be added.
Answer = Son las cinco y venticinco
Expressing 15 and 30 scruples after the Hour
After 15 minutes to express, y cuarto ly is added.
It is la (time) y cuarto
Son las (time) y cuarto
Example #1
1, 15;
1. Check to see if the singular or plural form is needed.
One is unique, therefore a unique form is needed.
2. Check how many minutes should be added to the form.
Fifteen minutes should be added to the form. Therefore y is added to the fourth form.
Answer = Es la una y cuarto
To express 30 minutes after the hour, add y means to the form.
Example #1

1. Check to see if the singular or plural form is needed.
A plural gift therefore needs a plural form.
3. Check to see how many minutes the form needs to be added.
Thirty minutes of form must be added. Therefore y is added to the middle of the form.
Answer = Son las dos y instruments.

Rule #2
From half an hour to an hour the next hour is subtracted.
Example #1

1. Check to see if the singular or plural form is needed.
The network is plural, so we need a plural form.
2. See how many minutes you need to add or subtract.
When the marked minutes have passed thirty minutes, it is necessary to subtract the minutes to the next hour.
Since there are ten minutes to the eighth hour, ten minutes must be subtracted.
8:00 – 10 minutes = 7:50
Answer = Son las ocho menos diez.
Example #2
10:40
1. Check to see if the singular or plural form is needed.
Diez is plural, so we need a plural form.
2. See how many minutes you need to add or subtract.
When the minute mark has passed 30 minutes, the minutes must be subtracted to the next hour.
When the time indicates twenty minutes to eleven o’clock, twenty minutes must be subtracted.
11:00 – 20 minutes = 10:40
Answer = Son las once less than twenty.
Expressing 15 ‘Til
To express 15 to the hour, subtract a quarter from the second hour.
They sleep the next hour, less than a quarter.
Example #1

1. Check to see if the singular or plural form is needed.
One is unique, therefore a unique form is needed.
2. See how many minutes you need to add or subtract.
When the minute mark passes 30 minutes, the minutes must be subtracted from the hour. (Note that the plural form is now used).
3. Since it is 15 minutes to an hour, less than a quarter should be added to the form.
2:00 – 15 minutes = 1:45
The answer must be = Son las dos menos cuarto.
Practically
1. 5:45
2. 10:50
3. 3:40
Answers
1. The son reads six menos quarto.
2. The son once died.
3. Son las cuatro menos twenty.
Distinguish between AM/PM

Example #2
9:10 p.m
1. Check to see if the singular or plural form is needed.
The new plural is therefore a plural form.
2. See how many minutes you need to add or subtract.
Ten minutes are to be added. Here is the Son las nineve y diez.
3. The form de la noche should be added because 9:10 AM indicates night.
Answer = Son las nueve y diez de la noche
Example #3
11:00 AM sharp
1. Check to see if the singular or plural form is needed.
Since it is plural, therefore a plural form is needed.
2. See how many minutes you need to add or subtract.
No minutes need be added or subtracted.
3. De la mañana should be added to the form that indicates AM in the morning.
This time is equal to his son las once de la manana.
4. One last point must be added because the time indicates 11:00 AM sharp.
Reply = Son las quondam de la manana en punto
