Much like the roster cuts that WWE does from time to time, another event that I look forward to on an annual basis is the WWE Superstar Draft. However, this year’s draft doesn’t exactly leave me in the best of moods. But then again, WWE hasn’t done much lately that has left a good taste in my mouth.
Coming off the heels of a huge roster cut last week that saw the releases of Shelton Benjamin and Mickie James, I was hoping WWE would make it in the 2010 Draft. If you want to spend a few minutes with me, I’m sure we’ll take you through a few of the best and well…very few that came out of the 2010 WWE Draft.
Look at the two cards that are usually left on the drawing board. First of all, can someone please explain to me how Kelly Kelly was the number one overall draft pick this year? Now let’s open something up before the ladies sharpen their nails. I support women in sports. I will help them even more if they contribute in a way that makes the rest of the guys in the room look better than the PP. Kelly Kelly’s contribution to WWE was only a back hand elbow in the corner. And about this s. She is nowhere near the quality of Trish Stratus or Molly Holly. In fact, very few of the current “Divas” on the roster could even think about being in the same ring with either of those two. If they send some ladies shot for one night, I hope it can make a huge twist. Be sure to check out Natalya or Beth Phoenix. The doors did a lot better than the previous Extreme Dancer.
While some of this year’s draft cards left me scratching my head, this one absolutely made me want to kick my television. Well, who in the world gives two sparks of a brain cell about Hornswaggle? He turned Chavo Guerrero’s career into a complete joke. And if Evan Burne has already been involved, then he won’t be far behind. Accumsan that is the children that I come. I understand. But they had a match recently between Dolph Ziggler and Hornswaggle on Raw recently and the little pest actually got a countout win. I have no doubt that he is in the air with his personality. I have a bigger problem with him getting into the ring and making fun of the profession that I have proudly called myself a part of for ten years. The next day on WWE.com, there was a supplemental edit, and it was a better edit for the big eight-hour three-edited edition of Raw. So before I talk more about these two files, it’s good when to leave and “sleep” what we need to get to us .
I think this year’s capture pick is undoubtedly the “Rated R Superstar” Edge. The WWE and World Heavyweight Champion spent most of 2009 on the sidelines with a torn Achilles tendon. Much like John Cena, Edge beat the recovery period from a major injury and returned to the ring nearly three months ahead of schedule. He returned to the Royal Rumble in January, and won the Rumble by decision against the World Champion, Chris Jericho. In the recent Draft, both Edge and Jericho were drafted to the raw mark but I think it will be Edge who benefits the most from the numbers. There is a list of new talent that could help Edge reach the top of the game, including Sheamus and Ted DiBiase, Jr.
Speaking of the Ambassador, that brings me to what might be a “dormant” potential. If there was a question about the Ambassador, those questions were answered in the supplemental draft the night after the general meeting. Eleven names have been brought up, but one that could be dropped is Cody Rhodes. Son of “The American-dream” Dusty Rhodes and brother of the often controversial Goldust, Cody. He spent several years in the company of DiBiase and Randy Orton. SmackDown was developed, which could open up new opportunities for the younger Rhodes, as the majority of the Night Fright seems to be filled with lesser talent, which is developed against the established names of Raw. If Cody Rhodes wants to prove himself, this will be his first opportunity to show the world and WWE management exactly what he can do and whether he can hang with the rest of the crew.
So there are a few from this year’s draft. I guess we’ll see just how much the bathroom thing shakes out, or if it’s just a snapshot of the monument. Of course, I could always be wrong and plan to build a great new talent and renew the excitement that WWE fans have been waiting for for so long. Then again, this is WWE we’re talking about.
