Carnes sang “If I lose my head on the road, I’ll have less step.” Something about that line always reminds me of the Muppet song. I don’t know why, but there is an essence of surrealism that would make the great Dadaist Hugo Ball proud. The Muppets all go back to the formative years of public television. Enjoy this special event while you can, because the next time a Republican takes over both Houses of Congress, it will cease to be Public TV. Imagine if public television had never existed…no Kermit and the gang at all. He has all his favorite Muppets and mine. What am I waiting for? Heck if I know, but here goes if you do.
5. Bobo Bear
Fozzie may be a bear, but in Muppet form he could easily be mistaken for another animal. It’s a big, life-sized Bobo bear. The most important time. While Fozzie is hyperactively in your face, Bobo is replaced with a wit and intelligence that may surprise you. So far, he still has a real breakthrough performance, but you can only understand how funny Bobo is by watching Muppets from Space where he shows great chemistry with Jeffrey Tambor.
4. Fozzie the Bear
What is it? There are two on the countdown and we already have two bears? Fozzie. Lovely Fozzie. list of top You can’t have Muppets without a sense of humor. Don’t care what Statler and Waldorf think: this bear comedian is about a thousand times funnier than Leno. But then so are Statler and Waldorf. Come to think of it, even Scooter is funnier than Leno.
3. Pepe King Prawn
Don’t call it a shrimp, it’s a prawn, okay? One of the more recent additions to the Muppet family, Pepe the King Prawn treads a fine line between smarmy and cute. He thinks he’s gift ideas for women Neptune, but the flaunting is just a cover for his so little insecurity. Lot of Freudian psychology in Pepe’s psyche. That stress is just killing me! The Muppet may have the most recognizable accent of all. For let it be. I just named Pepe the King Prawn as the most recognizable Muppet accent of all. Now we can find out what the accent is.
2. Rizzo Rat
A wide edition to the Muppet party, this account comes in “A Muppet Christmas Carol.” Rizzo has a bit of a forgetfulness to his Muppet makeup, which is irritating in features, but is charming in a sensitive figure. Rizzo brings a gritty New York quality to the Muppet universe, but in a safe, Cosmo Kramer kind of way.
1. Gonzo
It doesn’t matter what Gonzo is, this is the biggest Muppet of all. Gonzo has a wonderful sense of humor that is more suited to his own personality and sexual peccadilloes. A strong supporting character since “The Muppet Show,” Gonzo really comes into his own as the co-star of “A Muppet Christmas Carol.” Then, of course, his backstory was filled in on the way to “Muppets from Space.”
