The Godzilla movie franchise is some of the best science fiction and science fantasy movies ever made for us. Because of the low budgets given to each film, Toho Film Corporation had to break new ground in creating realistic monster effects that would continue to bring people to theaters.
While Godzilla has been given the freedom to create some more in monster moviesmonsters > in history, it is also believable that he has made some of the worst monster movies ever. Here is a list of the five worst Godzilla movies ever made.
5) Godzilla Versus Gigan – 1972
Godzilla Versus Gigan was made in 1972 but not released in the United States until 1977. It is premised that a race of aliens built Godzilla’s theme park that it has. Godzilla builds when the laser works. They use the space monsters Gigan and King Ghidorah to take over the world. He finds the real Godzilla and brings out his useless friend Angiris to help battle the bad guys.
Godzilla talks, shoots, and flies using his tail in this one atomic blast. Aliens kill themselves by shooting a covered elevator pencil drawing good guys. Then the aliens turn into cockroaches. The whole thing is very silly.
4) Godzilla Versus Megalon – 1973
This is another movie about Gigan and aliens taking over the world, except that these aliens live in our ocean. Earth Seatopia is angry about the atomic test and sends the giant cockroach Megalon to Earth to attack humans. Seatopia extends to some distant universe, so Gigan asks for help when Godzilla shows up.
This movie has its moments. Robot Jet Jaguar has the potential to be a raging powerhouse, but is reduced to kicking Godzilla’s sides, and Godzilla has to save Jet Jaguar’s metal disguise more than once. The dialogue is simple and the plot funny.
3) Godzilla’s Revenge – 1969
It is unclear what Godzilla’s revenge is in this movie, but it appears that he is seeking revenge on all the people who have supported the Godzilla franchise for the past 15 years. This is a story about a boy who channel the son of Godzilla in channel surrendered to Godzilla’s son and went to Godzilla’s Monster Island whenever he wanted.
The boy gets knowledge and strength from Godzilla and his son to defeat the bully at school. The movie is 70 minutes of re-cut moments from other Godzilla movies weakly interspersed between scenes of this boy and Godzilla’s son. It is difficult to follow in spots, and difficult to watch as a whole.
2) Godzilla 1985 – The Legend Reborn – 1984
The biggest mistake Toho is making is allowing Americans to appear in Godzilla movies. Raymond Burr reprises his role as reporter Steve Martin in this re-imagining of the Godzilla franchise.
There are some great moments in this movie, but the whole thing is overshadowed by Burr’s know-it-all attitude, and a sarcastic plan that offers no help. Burr was not the hero in the 1956 Godzilla movie, and he is not the hero in the 1985 installment either. This movie just drags, and Godzilla’s close ups sometimes become laughable.
1) Godzilla – 1998
When Toho gave its blessing for the 1998 American Godzilla movie, Godzilla fans were forced to accept it as part of the franchise’s history. This version of the Godzilla monster jumped from helicopters, hid in buildings, over bridges and was killed by a few bullets. Godzilla was barely depicted in the Toho movies before and after this one.
There was a sequel to this story, but Toho and Godzilla fans insisted that there be no sequels. Toho has canceled the use of the name “Godzilla” and allowed the studio to make the plans for the movie alone. Godzilla movies.
