Bejeweled Blitz is an obsession for facebook users and lovers of puzzle games everywhere. The last time I wrote about the game that keeps me on facebook for hours and takes up entirely too much of my time, I told you how to rack up huge points with the “most powerful combo.” [shameless plug for my other article here] This Time I’m focusing on the boosts.
At the beginning of any bejeweled game you have the opportunity to purchase up to three boosts. Choosing carefully you can greatly improve your score. Let’s look at some of the boosts available in “Blitz”
Mystery Gem This costs 6000 coins and places a random gem on the board that could be anything from a flame gem to a hypercube. My Take: I would say that this is one of the better boosts, because often you get to start the game with a hypercube which puts you at a serious advantage.
Detonator For 3000 coins this boost will give you a detonator that you can use at any time during the game to explode all special gems on the board. My Take: Save your coins. This sounds good, but it really isn’t that helpful on its own. If you combine it with the right other boosts, however, you can really rack up some points.
Scrambler This gives you the ability to scramble all of the gems on the board twice per game for a price of 4000 coins. My Take: This is one of my favorites. When the clock is ticking and you don’t see any moves, hit the scramble and it will almost certainly result in a combo.
+5 Seconds For 4,500 coins you get an extra 5 seconds at the end of the game to earn extra points. My Take: There are better ways to spend your coins. 5 seconds can go a long way in Bejeweled Blitz but still, this is kind of a waste of coins in most cases.
Free Multiplier It’s not exactly free at 7,500 coins, but it is helpful to begin the game with a multiplier already on the board. My Take: A little pricey, and not as fun as the scramble, but very useful. Considering that multipliers are the key to a high Bejeweled score, this one is very valuable.
So what’s the best combination of boosts in Bejeweled Blitz? Well, the thing is that it’s different for each player. Each boost works different for different people, but I can recommend what works best for me. The best combination of boosts for my money is the scrambler along with the mystery gem, and the free multiplier. The most important thing I can recommend, however, is to play several games without any boosts. The best strategy is to boost your skill by playing without help because all the power-ups in the world will not replace skill.
