A pumpkin patch this time of year is a great place for a family to spend a Saturday or Sunday. Houston is fortunate that it has three options that offer a lot more than just pumpkins. Here is my list of the top three:
Dewberry Farm
FM 362 and Morrison Road, Brookshire, TX 77423 call 866.908.FARM for more information.
Admission:
Children 2 and under: FREE General Admission
Kids (age 3-54) $12.00 (tax included)
Seniors 55+ $9.00 (tax included)
Military and Law Enforcement $10.00 (tax included)
Open to the Public Sept 29 – Nov 11, Sat 10am – dusk, Sun 12pm – dusk
This place is as colorful and fun as it looks on the website. They have a huge corn maze that will keep the kids occupied for a long time. Their “Pumkin Hollarland” is an indoor display of over 500-lighted pumpkins. You do your pumpkin picking in the 16-acre field where you will find several different varieties of fresh vine pumpkins. There is also a tractor drawn wagon ride taking you to and from the field. Also, have a barnyard that if you are lucky will have plenty of baby animals for the kids to fawn over. Other attractions are the cow train, Hay Mountain, pedal carts, Kidilla Hoppers, corn cannons, farmer flinger, calf roping, a giant roller slide, zip lines, bottle blasters and swings called Black Mombas. There is so much good ole’ fashioned fun at this place, that I put in on the top of the list.
Oil Ranch

A little more upscale then Dewberry farm, it caters to hosting big parties like corporate events and family reunions. There is a Pumpkin and Scarecrow festival at the Oil Ranch from October 1 through the end of the month. During the festival, the ranch is open 7 days a week. During the festival, you can enjoy a hayride, tour the scarecrow scenes and see the thousands of pumpkins. In addition, there is gold mining, a stockyard maze, an animal barn.
TGR Exotics
22115 Sherrod Lane, Spring, TX 77389 281.353.5252
Admission:
13 months and up $10.00 per person (plus tax when applicable)
Hayride is included. ***
Oct 1 – 31, Sat 10:30am – 5pm, Sun 12pm – 5pm, weekdays 10am – 2pm by appointment only
This establishment offers a unique pumpkin picking experience. The “exotics” in the name is referring to the wild (okay that is debatable) animals. Camels, kangaroo joeys, piglets and other baby exotic animals on our farm will make the visit a special one. They also offer tractor-pulled hayrides, camel rides (weekends only) face painting, paint-a-pumpkin, and more. At the “Meet the Keeper” session on weekends they bring out a surprise animal not on display to the public.
