The Best WWE Pay Per View Matches of 2007

The highlight of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is the pay per views throughout the year and that is when some of the best matches take place. This year’s best matches range from some of the biggest pay per views like the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, and Survivor Series. Here is a look at the best pay per view matches in 2007.

Royal Rumble: At the 2007 Royal Rumble, John Cena took on Umaga in a classic Last Man Standing match, but that was overcast by the Royal Rumble itself. Twenty eight men had already entered the ring and been eliminated by being thrown over the top rope, leaving just two ring veterans remaining. Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker stood face to face and battled each other until the Undertaker got the advantage and won the match. A great match and another mark in the Undertaker’s ever-growing history book made this a memorable match.

Wrestlemania 23: Wrestlemania 23 was highlighted by three amazing main events, the last one being a clash between John Cena and Shawn Michaels. Having just won the tag team titles a few weeks earlier, these two were now butting heads in this classic match. It was very reminiscent to the Triple H vs. Cena match a year earlier where Cena got submission victory, just like he did to Shawn Michaels.

Backlash: After Wrestlemania, Michaels wanted a rematch, and he got it, but with the addition of two more competitors. Randy Orton and Edge were both vying for the title in this back and forth Fatal Four-Way Match. After every wrestler performed their finisher, it was Cena who lucked out and got the victory.

Survivor Series: Throughout most of 2007, the Undertaker and Batista were involved in a heated feud with each other that culminated with a Hell in a Cell match at the Survivor Series. They did not hesitate to start the bashing early as Batista brought a steel chair into the ring. After using the chair, steps, and the cell itself, both men were beat to a bloody pulp. An interference from Edge gave Batista the win and just added more fuel to fire of this long feud.

No Mercy: After John Cena tore his pectoral muscle and was forced to give up his WWE title, the No Mercy pay per view held three title matches to determine a new champion. The final match was between Randy Orton and Triple H. After Triple H encountered a brutal battle with Umaga, he was not a hundred percent going into a Last Man Standing match against Orton, but still put on a hell of a show. Battling around the ring, an R.K.O on the announcer’s table finally put Triple H to rest and crowned the first new champion in over a year.

The 2007 Pay Per Views were a mix of forgettable and unforgettable matches that capped an overall good year in the WWE. As 2008 approaches, the matches and pay per view caliber will only get better as new superstars rise in the WWE.
