Located just a short one hour drive north of Charlotte on hwy 52 in Lexington, NC you will find a beautiful and classy addition to Davidson County. Richard Childless ventured to create and develop a vineyard in our area and to make it one of the finest in the country. I would assert that he succeeded in grand style, with the opening of Childress Vineyards. The vineyard features a Tuscany style building complex and a large variety of grape vines for use in the production of their wines. The vineyard strives to use only NC grown grapes and has already produced some award winners. The winery also offers a top notch tasting room which won awards for being one of the top 25 tasting rooms in the country. The buildings and facilities are spectacular on their own, but one of the features they showcase is the Bistro restaurant on site.
I have frequented the bistro many times and can honestly say that it is fabulous. To begin with, the food is excellent and the choices are numerous. They serve some of the finest meals at some of the most competitive prices in the area. The head chef (David), carefully overlooks every order and selects hand picked items for the menu. We enjoy taking guests there and order from the large covered patio overlooking the grounds at the rear of the winery. The atmosphere they provide along with a perfectly matched wine and food combination simply cannot be beat. One of the great extras which we particularly enjoy about eating there is the outside tables and music on the lawn the vineyard hosts several days of the week. They bring in local talent from the surrounding areas and have them perform under the large covered stage area out in the middle of the lawn. What an experience! Ordering from the bistro while sitting outside, listening to live music being performed for your entertainment, and sharing a great bottle of wine with a friend. The experience alone is worth the trip to visit this place.
Whether you want a full lunch, or just a cheese plate with a bottle or their award winning wine they have you covered. The sandwiches are awesome, and the variety of cheese is excellent. The prices are very reasonable as well. After the meal we also enjoy browsing in the gift shop or sometimes will have a wine tasting with friends. The whole experience is such a pleasure and the staff is great. That’s one of the things that I look for in choosing a good place to eat. Great service, a staff that makes you feel appreciated and welcome, and good food. Childress Vineyards covers the bases on all of the above and more. The bistro is a place that I would recommend anyone putting on the top of their list for places to visit. We are so thankful to have an establishment such as this in our area and will continue to tell people about this little bistro. I have yet to send anyone there who has not informed me they enjoyed it. That is a sign of success for any restaurant, if people come back, then you must have it right. So let me close with this advise. If you ever travel to Lexington,NC please don’t leave without making the trip to Childress Vineyards and having lunch in their bistro. I promise you will be glad you did.
