33 Senate races will be decided in 2012. Many, perhaps most, will not be close. But very few will probably be close. One of the closest is in the Connecticut senate, where Chris Murphy is facing Linda McMahon.
State of Connecticut
In the elections for President Connecticut was solidly Democratic. Obama beat McCain 61-38. Kerry Bush beat 54-44, and Gore Bush 55-38. Recent polls show that Obama has an easy win, even though Connecticut has not been much of a president. It is likely that a lot of attention will be paid to the presidential campaign.
Statewide, one of Connecticut’s senators is an independent who is retiring with a Democrat (Joe Lieberman) and one is a Democrat (Richard Blumenthal). All five of its representatives in the House of Representatives are Democrats.
Genus senate
Chris Murphy is a member of the House of Representatives. Linda McMahon is a businesswoman.
Chris Murphy: Democrat elected to the Senate from Connecticut:
Chris Murphy supports a woman’s right to choose. He supported TARP and Obama’s economic recovery package. She is a supporter of the rights of women and gays and other minorities and has received 100 ratings from both the Civil Rights Campaign and the NAACP. He is a strong supporter of public education and has received recognition from the NEA. Murphy is a supporter of protecting the environment, and was rated 97th out of 100 by the Conservation Alliance. He is especially opposed to trade agreements. Chris Murphy supports Obama’s health-care-coverage policy and has received 100 ratings from the American Public Relations Society the issue rates it liberal in social and economic issues.
Linda McMahon: Republican Senate candidate from Connecticut:
Because Linda McMahon has never held elected office, is a former governor and is not currently in office, On the Issue has relatively few results for her, even though she has said that she is a woman’s right to vote (but against federal funding) and that Obamacare is being stopped.
