Faith is described as the firm belief or trust in something for which there is no physical proof. Though this may sound absurd, it is often practiced by many individuals through religion. Religion was a major practice in past societies and still is a major practice in our current society. Even as the world spread, religion has spread along with it and has caused many controversial issues with humanistic beliefs, most of which have not yet been resolved. This has caused people to create their own branches of religion based on what they believe to be true and untrue. The branches of Christianity are perfect examples on what people believe to be true and untrue, as they all hold many different aspects. Though with the wide variety of differences, there is one particular topic that they all believe to be true, the idea of God. Disciples have made a very popular book, said to have been told to them through God, called The Bible. And although The Bible seems convincing, there are many discrepancies within it, one of which includes homosexuality. The belief of God is easily disproved when pertaining to the issue of homosexuality, as it shows that god doesn’t love us all, he brings damnation upon people, and he commits sin.
God is said to be the creator of all, so if god did not intend for man to love another man, he would not have created a society with homosexuality in place. Though one particular disciple, Pope Benedict XVI, has argued otherwise.
“Although the particular inclination of the homosexual person is not a sin, it is a more or less strong tendency ordered to an intrinsic moral evil, and thus the inclination itself must be seen as an objective disorder… It is deplorable that homosexual persons have been and are the object of violent malice in speech or in action. Such treatment deserves condemnation from the Church’s pastors wherever it occurs” (Benedict).
Though this theology is very flimsy to say the least. It insinuates that homosexuality is only a sin if it is not fixed upon birth. He is, therefore, saying that God did not intend for homosexuality to come about. However, science is proving that homosexuality is perhaps a gene in your body and this is proving that homosexuality is indeed something you are born with that can not simply be “fixed.”
Scientific theories pertaining homosexuality have been circulating around for decades. Many researchers believe that there is a gene that connects a person with their sexuality. While these are just theories, a recent breakthrough has shown that researchers can manipulate a fruit flies sexuality by either genetic manipulation or drugs. This breakthrough was discovered by researcher David Featherstone and his coworkers who work at The University of Illinois.
“It was very dramatic,” said Featherstone. “The GB mutant males treated other males exactly the same way normal male flies would treat a female. They even attempted copulation.”
This dramatic breakthrough is a huge step in the way homosexuality is viewed and can prove that homosexuality is something genetically inherited and can not be changed willingly as Benedict and The Bible otherwise say.
Science has disproved Benedict’s theory, but his theory also goes against the theology that God created everything. Whether his statement is true or untrue, both seem to prove a discrepancy told in The Bible. Either homosexuality is not a sin, God did not create everything, or perhaps both. Though this idea seems unfathomable to those who believe in God. But as pointed out by a writer in the advocate, “When your theology is disproved by reality, you can change it, or simply close your eyes…” (Sullivan 88).
Secondly, it is said that god loves all of “his children,” but if he is willing to send some of us to hell, then he can’t possible love us all. If homosexuality is a sin, as described in The Bible, than that means a person who acts upon their impulses will be banished to the pits of hell for eternity. Hell is described as a place of anguish and despair, an eternity of death and revival in flames. This place of corruption is so cruel, that it seems virtually implausible that a man who has love for all would make anyone suffer there. It’s contradicting to say that God loves everyone but yet he will send you to a place where only hate thrives. A place where his love will never seem apparent. A place where “his children” will resent him and ultimately hate him.
“The Lord uses Satan to remove chaff from our lives. Amazingly enough, God accomplishes this purpose by allowing us to fail repeatedly!! God uses Satan to fulfill that purpose in Peter and He will use Satan to purpose in our lives too. There’s a lot of chaff in all of us – the chaff of pride, self-confidence, and self-righteousness. God uses Satan to make us fail repeatedly, in order to remove all chaff from us completely,” (Poonen).
Zac Poonen describes that God is removing chaff from our lives, but homosexuality does not have a chaff. It has no moral standing, as it is simply just two men or women engaging in a loving relationship. The reason for sin, according to Zac, is to remove imperfections, but if God created homosexuality, then it can not possible be an imperfection. There are no plausible reasons behind why homosexuality is wrong. There is no justifications behind it, and it ultimately has no relevance to The Bible. So one must inquire perhaps the opposing side just felt justified to ban something they felt was wrong and they simply manipulated The Bible by saying God told him or her to do it. It’s a thought that can assumed through the piling of evidence against The Bible.
The final point is The Bible specifies that one can not pass judgment on another person, and by saying homosexuality is wrong, God is ultimately passing judgment on a group of people and punishing them for it. God is seen as an essence who is perfect. Perfection was made through him, and sin corrupted the perfection in all the people on earth. Though, if God is damning people for their lifestyle choices, he is seen as judging people, something that is looked upon as a sin. So if God can place judgment on homosexuals and others he deems irrelevant to be in heaven, he is ultimately committing an act of sin. If God is creating sin, then that proves that god is not perfect and he is the ultimate creator of sin and he too commits to a life of sin like all those he created. That would then mean the story of Adam and Eve in The Bible was false, and proves that The Bible is a stream of lies. But if judgment is not a sin, then this means that The Bible is lying about saying otherwise.
Sexuality is being proven as a biological effect, through science, that can not simply be turned off without genetic modification or drugs. This can only further disprove the errors in The Bible and the repeated contradictions in it are just signs that God, a supposed perfect essence, did not tell these disciples the events that happened in The Bible. A lie is contained in The Bible and God can not lie, so therefore, our only evidence linking God to the world is gone, and with this link disproved, there is no logical explanation on the existence of God, proving that God, simply, can not exist.
