She likes to see the way Hollywood gives to people who are working hard to achieve something in their chosen entertainment careers and allows tourists to walk by their names every day.
As of this writing, there are currently 2,323 stars dotting Hollywood blvd. and Vite S. Terrazzo’s pink borders have become a globally recognized symbol of Hollywood, with millions of tourists flocking to the great city every year to walk its famous boulevards for snapshots of the names engraved on them.
But like everything else in Hollywood, the awarding of stars is not necessarily to those who deserve it, but to those who worship it.
John Tesh has one. Judge Judy has one. The Simpsons have one.
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have one. Even Godzilla has one.
But Al Pacino, Francis Ford Coppola, and Robert Redford don’t. What does it give?
It was first created as a way to lift the face of Hollywood, the first star was placed in 1960 for Joanne Woodward. Most recently to LA Lakers owner Jerry Buss on Oct. 30.
Hollywood stars Commercials are accepted. A committee of five – headed by longtime Hollywood “honorary major” Johnny Grant – sift through the 300 or so applications and select two dozen each year for the award.
Celebrities are usually honored for their contributions to the entertainment industry. In fact, all it takes is about $15,000 (and possibly a donation) to burn terrazzo. Nothing happens with the recent trend of celebrities getting stars at or around the same time they have a major motion picture coming out. Students give back to the public and gain.
Walk of Fame director of publicity Ana Martinez-Holler said in an interview with Fox News in 2003 that $15,000, for the removal of the old, blank star, the installation of a new one with the name of entertainment, security, public and public. the cost of staging, and then $5,000 for maintenance and repairs.
Anderson Jones, the filmmaker told E! Online it is perfectly complex:
“Hollywood used to be run by writers, directors and producers. Now Hollywood is run by the marketing department.”
Life and Style Weekly recently ran an article that in a recent episode honoring Jerry Buss, Paris Hilton was overheard complaining about getting a star:
“I don’t know,” said the half-witness. “And as most of them are dead.” I absolutely have a star. I deserve one. I am one of the most famous people on earth! “Will Paris accept the star simply because she is rich and wants it? If this happens, her driving reputation will lose what little credibility she has left.
But we are sure that the crowds of tourists will stop them from enjoying walking into each other on the sidewalk – which is indeed quite good entertainment on a Saturday in the Summer.
