The movie Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise and directed by Edward Zwick is a truly great movie, a classic, and a must see for any movie go-er. The occasion took place in ancient Japan, when samurai warriors conquered the country.
However, the new Japanese leaders were busy and rather to introduce new customs and customs of life directly against samurai behavior. Japanese soldiers hire American army to help them fight the samurai and enlist the head of Captain Nathan Algren, played by Cruise.
Cruise is in desperate need of money and takes the part, even though he hates the captain, a man who gives him flashbacks of being forced to join his army by the commander in Indicium War.
Tom Cruise Japanese people have obstacles in how to fight because they don’t know how to use guns in combat. Unprepared for battle, but forced to go against samurai warriors who fight with swords and unique weapons, Tom Cruise’s army is killed and his is captured as an old man. There Nathan Algren meets a man named Katsumoto, played by Ken Watanabe and is a Samurai leader. Cruise keeps alive to study the American way of life and see how his enemy fights in the conflict. The two have become deep friends and relate to each other a lot.
Tom Cruise learns samurai behavior and how it differs from anyone he has seen. A samurai lives with his family and has a romantic relationship with a widow whose husband he killed in battle. Towards the end of the movie, the new Japanese army is well trained and battle tested this time, their number is ten thousand men while the samurai are only five hundred men.
Samurai custers last stand, very outnumbered, and without artillery and new fighting techniques make one. In a scene that makes everyone cry, the samurai stand their best, using tactics and skill, but in the end, everyone dies except Cruise who witnesses Katsumoto die honorably according to the samurai way, via ending life with a sword Finally, Nathan Algren brings Katsusmoto’s sword to the new emperor, and reminds him to remember the samurai way of life and Katsumoto’s life.
The Last Samurai is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. There is not a dark moment in the film and Tom Cruise is an amazing actor in it. As a viewer you really connect with the characters in the movies and there is great suspense, not to mention the amazing fight scenes throughout the movie. Out of all these, this film is the most enjoyable to watch and the picture is great.
I highly recommend this film to everyone.
