Last night, Adam Lambert’s rendition of the 1982 Tears for Fears hit “Crazy World” hit a high note with the American Idol judges. On Tuesday, April 7, 2009, the top eight contestants on American Idol were born in the year. Adam Lambert, dipping into the sea of hits since the rise of 1982, chose the show with the stripped-down descent of “ManiWorld” which is based on Gary Jules’ interpretation of the song used for the 2001 movie “Donnie Darko”.
Adam Lambert is talented in reading fans and again and again he made an exquisite choice with the artistic interpretation of song and stage, song and show. Instead of a mocking, pounding number, Lambert went with a soft, controlled interpretation of the song. From the very first note, which began with Adam sitting in a blue-covered center stage, the 27-year-old managed to handle American Idol audience and judges of prisoners. And the voice was foreshadowed not only in the spot, but in the beauty of the poem’s perpetual art. Adam’s impeccable ability to draw in his voice and showmanship is also unmistakable, as always. I am always impressed by his stage presence. Adam Lambert performs as a seasoned artist, not a young uncertain talent… His talent cannot be denied.
For this week’s performance, Adam Lambert chose to go with a stripped down version of the song and appearance, both of which I felt were excellent choices. Instead of the sometimes heavily made and gothic Adam, fans have seen a subdued version of the singer. While that look is suitable for many readings of his poem, the look of the rear staircase was a smart choice to make this one. Instead of distracting from her amazing, soulful vocals, it enhanced her subtle look. At least this fan did. Lambert made the wise decision to perform a softer, more emotional song this week, despite his renditions of “Ring Fire” and “Play That Funky Music White Boy.” While both of these previous acts were undoubtedly well executed, I feel that “Crazy World” allowed the audience to fully appreciate and appreciate Adam Lambert’s vocal ability and ability. In fact, I dare say Adam may have won some new fan skills after last night’s performance.
Adam Lambert’s performance of “Mand World” also struck a chord with the American judges and fans in the audience. The great love of the fans was evident from the screaming and shouting throughout their song. The only downside to Adam’s night was that American Idol was running through the time slot and viewers had already tuned in and missed his performance. That would be a shame. Although it was a very short time for the opinions of the judges, it was concluded with a huge acceptance by Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, and Paula Abdul from the strongest American judge Idol. Simon Cowell excused himself for the show to run out of time before Adam could receive his due praise from the judges, then rose to his feet and gave Adam Lambert a standing ovation. That in itself sums up the magnitude of the chilling, and astonishing, performance.
