The Mississippi Hunter Education Program is an important step for any beginning hunter, regardless of age. The purpose of this is to start teaching hunters about the correct and safest ways to enjoy the sport of hunting. The Mississippi Hunter Training Program is a program to be completed by any hunter whose birthday is after January 1, 1972 who wishes to purchase a Mississippi hunting license. In an institutional school setting, a student will attend 10 hours of instruction along with time spent on field training. During this time the student will learn hunter ethics, hunter responsibility, firearm history, firearms and information, handling firearms, handling tips, more about muzzleloading and archery, wildlife identification and wildlife management. Students will also have the opportunity to learn survival techniques, first aid and water safety. After school time and field work 10 a. test done to receive the certificate.
A student who chooses the Mississippi Hunter Education Online Course has the opportunity to work independently in the Hunter Education Certificate, take the open -take the certification exam and then complete the course with a three-hour gym course. This three-hour course includes interaction with an instructor, field work and a final exam that they will be required to take and pass before they too receive their certificate, just like a student who chose a traditional school setting.
