The Muppet Show: The 10 Worst Characters

My mother always told me, “Lee, if you don’t have anything nice to say…then write a top 10 list about it.” The Muppet Monster was one of the greatest television shows ever created but even The Muppet Show had some flaws, especially some of the characters.

There are ten characters from The Muppet Show I Can’t Stand. I know many people disagree with this, but I just remember that I fell on my head a few times as a kid. If my list includes someone you love, you’ll blame the older brothers.

10. Rizzo in Rat
Gonzo is one of my favorite Muppet show characters but I’m not a big fan of his friends, the mouse and the chicken. I enjoyed Rizzo’s narration in The Muppet’s Christmas Carol so that’s why he’s so low on the list but most of the time Rizzo is a big nuisance.

9. Muppet Newsman
Your Muppet Newsman was a typical newsman of that era and that’s why I hate him. Seriously, how do people actually go on the air with those horrible shirts!

8. Janice
I’m sure we all know someone who has an annoying voice, whether it’s the tone or the pitch of the voice or the accent, like Fran Drescher’s laugh or the accent of anyone in the movie Fargo. Janice is the Muppet Show character who represents those people. That voice just makes me want to punch myself in the ear because it would be better to ring than to hear her voice.

7. Sam the eagle
Sam the Eagle delivers the most obnoxious Muppet behavior. Hearing Sam Eagle speak is like watching Keanu Reeves and Paul Walker trying to perform a scene from Romeo and Juliet.

6. Bunsen Honeydew
Bunsen Honeydew is a perfect example of rule #127 in television and film: Sidekick is usually nicer. He is an awesome bowler. Bunsen Honeydew? Not so much.

5. Wayne and Wanda
Wayne and Wanda were one of the recurring gags that I couldn’t stand on The Muppet Show. Wayne and Wanda were a terrific singing group. Not even their bad luck as often made them suffer so that I could enjoy these two characters.

4. Scooter
The only way Scooter ever got to be on the show was by mentioning that his uncle owned the show. If you’re a Muppet and this is the only way you can show a Muppet is to compare someone then that’s pretty miserable.

3. Kermit the Frog
I know people don’t like this one. I’m sure when you were a kid and you saw Kermit the Frog you were scared and he was the star of the show, but I challenge you to go back and watch the first two seasons of The Muppet Show on DVD. If you really pay attention to Kermit the Frog he is actually the second most self-centered, egotistical character in children’s shows after only Bugs Bunny . During the segments where Kermit the Frog talks to the host, any question is basically a sign for “just say something nice about me?”

2. Robin
Sadly, even the Muppet Show has dropped. No way, the little frog was annoying enough. The Muppet monster had to introduce another frog to Kermit’s nephew. Couldn’t they make a relative of at least one good brand?

1. Miss Piglet
I certainly don’t like the fact that Miss Piglet is on the list too. I can see why people are fooled into loving Kermit the Frog because he seems like a likable character if you don’t pay close attention to the truth. But I will never understand why one person would like Miss Piglet. There are absolutely no redeeming qualities about any of Miss Piglet. It is loud, it is annoying, it reflects itself, it is a pig. Why would anyone like him?
