‘The Office’ Episode 9.07 Recap: Dwight Conquers the Whale

With Andy on a boat trip, the most recent episode of “The Office” had a different feeling than the other ones had this season. Of course, it was still a funny episode. Dwight had to face one of his biggest fears, while Angela and Oscar both start to wonder about the senator’s true intentions. Meanwhile, Jim is having an increasingly hard time juggling his two jobs, and that could lead to more problems for him down the road. In addition, a familiar face made a return appearance much to the horror of Pam and Dwight. Here is a recap of the latest episode, “The Whale.”

Dwight tries to sell to women

Dwight fancies himself as a great salesman, but he has always had one major issue. Not surprisingly, he can’t sell to women. When David Wallace calls Dwight with news that the Scranton White Pages are up for sale, Dwight is excited that he has landed his dream client. Unfortunately, the new person in charge of the Scranton White Pages is a woman. Everyone in the office is well aware of Dwight’s issues with women, so they decide to help him rehearse. The women gather in the conference room, where Dwight makes an awkward sales pitch. The ladies continue to try and help him, and even have to teach him how to listen to women. After a while, everyone realizes that it’s a lost cause except for Pam, who decides to accompany Dwight to the meeting.

When the two arrive at the meeting, they are surprised to find out that the new boss at the Scranton White Pages is none other than Jan. As crazy as ever, Jan is angry that David isn’t there at the meeting. However, Dwight is determined to sell. He asks Pam to distract Jan, which she does by looking at Jan’s strange slide shows. While Pam deals with the awkwardness, Dwight enlists the services of Clark. It turns out that he looks just like Jan’s old assistant Hunter, and that does the trick. To add to Dwight’s good fortune, he ends up charming Jan’s current assistant Molly.

Angela and Oscar go on an investigation

Angela reveals to Oscar that she believes that her husband is cheating on her, but she doesn’t suspect that Oscar is the reason for that. She tells Oscar that she sees a daily note that says “Yoga with Blake” in the Robert’s appointment book. This brings out the jealousy in Oscar, who wants to know what the deal with Blake is. The two decide to investigate, and they spy on him at yoga. Angela is relieved to see that Robert is doing yoga with a guy, but Oscar insists that they keep watching. As he grows more nervous, he starts letting Angela think that Robert might be gay. As it turns out, Robert isn’t doing anything with Blake. However, he calls Oscar while Angela is there, which leads her to give Oscar a death stare. It looks like the cat is out of the bag.

Jim’s work project

Jim can’t help Dwight with the sales pitch because he is supposed to attend a business meeting with his co-worker over the phone. He’s excited about the work project, but things turn ugly when he is constantly interrupted during his call. He can’t concentrate, and ends up making a bunch of mistakes on the phone. Eventually, Jim’s partner tells him that he doesn’t know how the business can work if Jim is in Scranton. Jim asks what that means, setting up another potential obstacle with Pam.
