Appearance
The name papillon is French for butterfly, and these dogs are known for their erect, butterfly ears. Another variety of Papillon with folded ears, called phalene, which is named after the wings of the moth. The most common papillon colors are black and white, red and white, sable and white, and tri-color papillons.
It covers the head and extends behind the ears, except for the white blaze and the white nose. The tail is bent towards the head, and the long coat descends like a spring. They adorn their legs with feathers, and fancy coats hang from their backs.
