The Side Effects of Drinking Soda

Most people know that drinking soda every day can have adverse side effects on their body, yet people fail to stop drinking soda. It is unbelievable how unhealthy soda can be for your body.

Even though drinking soda is a convenient way to quench you thirst, in actually, soda can actually dehydrate you even more. Have you ever noticed that when you drink a soda, you are still thirsty afterwards. Yes, you may be full and bloated from the soda, but you have not gotten the nutrients and water that you need to feed your body. Soda actually contains chemicals that cause you to become more dehydrated when you consume them. So what do you do? You keep drinking more and more soda. The more soda you drink the worse you are making the problem.

Soda is full of sugar and high fructose corn syrup. It is a proven fact that consuming high fructose corn syrup and large amounts of sugar will make you put on weight. There is absolutely no nutritional value in a soda. Basically, when you drink a soda you are adding putting empty calories into your body. if you consume more calories than you burn in a day, you will add gain weight. Now, not many people actually want to gain weight. And if you really did want to gain weight, you should do it with nutritional food and not soda. By drinking one can of soda a day, you can gain up to 15 pounds in a year. And that is only one can a day: most people drink anywhere from 3-5 cans a day of soda. That means if you stopped drinking soda all together and your physical level remained the same, you could actually lose those 15 pounds in a year.

With all the sugar that is a soda, not only can you gain weight from it, the soda will also make your blood sugar rise. High blood sugar can cause faintness, rapid heart rate, and cause you to become dehydrated. Soda should absolutely not be drank by anyone who has diabetes, as one soda can raise your blood sugar levels to a dangerous level. Sugar also helps rot your teeth. Dentist are making a fortune off of people drinking soda. Think about how many cavities could be prevented it people did not drink soda.

Soda is also loaded with caffeine, which is a stimulant. If your child is drinking caffeinated soda, then you are basically giving them a drug. Caffeine is addictive and that is one reason why it is so hard for people to give up soda. Even though you may get a little “pick me up” from the caffeine in soda, the downfall of the “pick me up” causes damage to your body. When you get off your caffeine high (which it usually does not last very long) you actually feel more tired and than you did before you drank the soda. Caffeine also removes calcium from our bodies. This is especially dangerous in children who need calcium to grow and keep their bones strong.

So, if you continue to drink soda every day, you will weight 15 pounds more, have cavities in your mouth, be dehydrated, have osteoporosis from the lack of calcium and be addicted to caffeine. I know for sure that is not how I would want to live and that is why I choose to stop drinking soda. For me, it was not that hard to do, especially after you look at all the negative side effects it causes your body. What is more important, a can of soda or having a healthy body?
