The Sony FD Trinitron WEGA: A 32 Inch Television I Cannot Live Without

One of the many products that I use on a daily basis around my house is the 32 inch television that I got as a gift a short while back. Produced by Sony, it is in their line of FD Trinitron WEGA’s, which have direct view flat screens. It’s large enough to provide a great viewing atmosphere for the dozens of shows that I watch every week, but not so big that it takes up too much room in the den. This Trinitron comes with embedded speakers to both sides of the 32 inch picture, and comes in a nice silver metallic color that really sets it apart from most of the other electronics I own. It has a combined width of 35.4 inches, and a height of 26.9 inches, with a depth of 23 inches. It’s not a mounted television, so you are going to need a nice sturdy stand, and I have it propped on top of a good entertainment center. With the purchase, it also comes with an innovative remote control (Product #RM-Y181) that helps to not only support the television, but your VCR, Cable Box, DVD Player, and if you have it, a Satellite system.

One of the main reasons that I wanted this television, is that it comes with Sony’s unique picture-in-picture capabilities. This means that when the cable is hooked up properly, you can watch two shows at the same time. The primary show fills up the main screen, and a smaller screen pops up in the corner so you can watch a secondary show. That box can be moved around to all four corners of the main screen, can be adjusted in size, and can also be exchanged with the primary screen to become the new “main-screen.” It has the ability to provide sound for either screen, so you can rotate back and forth, and I love being able to switch between two different programs. It may seem like overkill to some, but for instance, if you have a show starting while a sporting event is still on, you can put the game into the small screen, start the show, and switch over on commercials. It is also great if there are two games going on at the same time, because you can rotate between them depending on how the action is going. The PiP (Picture-in-Picture) is one of the main reasons to go with this model, and it really helps to set this television apart from a lot of others that Sony has to offer.

In addition to the cool PiP feature, there are two great selling points that really won over my opinion of this television. Those two assets are the picture quality and the sound that the speakers are able to produce. First, with the picture, the television has program palette presets that involve Vivid, Standard, Movie, & Sports modes. Each one shows the picture in a different color scheme, and all of them give off a crisp, sharp picture quality. I am big into the Vivid mode, but many users will find it more to their liking to switch between modes, depending upon what is being watched. The television also keeps its image integrity preserved with a 3-Line Digital Comb Filter. With the flat screen, you have a picture that is full from corner to corner, and its lack of an arc actually makes it that much better of a picture. This has been nice for me, because it also makes it easier to see the picture from more angles in the house. The sound always comes out crisp and clear with the speakers, and has quite a high level that the volume can safely reach without distorting anything. This makes it very easy to watch loud movies like Pirates of the Caribbean with a higher level of enjoyment than if you were just using a basic set. This includes surround sound effects and a high level of bass and treble that you can control right from the remote.

The preset channel quantity on the Trinitron is 181, and it of course gives you the ability to jump from channel to channel in the memory. The Menu feature is very easy to use, and it comes up with a clear background, so that you can see what the set is doing as you change any of the functions. From there you can choose to turn on or off the closed caption, change the language, pre-set channels, and pretty much anything else you can think of that a television can do. The set also has 5 video modes that allows you to hook up many devices to it at the same time. For those with gaming systems, VCR’s and DVD Players all at the same time, this feature makes it so you don’t have to keep plugging and unplugging devices. There is a front panel on the system right below the screen, where you can plug external devices like video game systems, and it also houses extra volume, channel, and menu controls if for some reason you cannot find the remote control. On the back of the television there are several other input/output connections that include 2 composite video/audio inputs, 2 S-Video inputs, 1 Fixed/variable audio output, 2 component video inputs, and 1 RF input (F Connector). Basically this means it has the ability to hook up your cable, your cable box, and all your other external devises that will set off what the television has to offer.

This is really a great television in my opinion (Product # KV-32FS210 if you are looking to get specific), and a flagship for the Sony model of televisions. It combines great picture and sound with many other attributes that really lead to a great television watching experience. This set cost $599.99 when purchased, and is well worth the full price. I think that if you are in the market for a great television that this is one of the better options that Sony produces, and one which will keep this family happy for many years to come.
