The Tennessee Titans surprised the world in the 2007 NFL draft. Instead of a wide receiver or a corner, they did something unthinkable. running backs They recruited Chris Henry from the University of Arizona. The Titans have a history of producing great running backs. They have runners like Eddie George, Henry Travis and Chris Brown. they have now added another great back to this collection with a selection of Henricus Travis.
Christopher Henry wasn’t exactly the greatest college player. As a freshman he only played in two games due to a leg injury. In his sophomore year, he ran for a total of 159 yards. He finally got his first season as a junior and ran for 581 yards and 7 touchdowns. Not exactly super stats. You wouldn’t exactly be a status guy draft early in the NFL draft. But that’s it.
Henry showed numbers at his NFL combine. Running 40 yards you will run in exactly 4.33 seconds. He lifted an incredible 225lbs for twenty-six reps. Combine all of this with a 32-inch vertical jump and you have a player who is very welcome to NFL teams. Much better, Chris Henry was the most recent because he didn’t carry much in college. With the 50th pick in the 2007 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans selected Chris Henry from the University of Arizona.
Christopher Henry is a unique combination of power and speed. He has great running ability to break outside, and he also has the power to run up the middle and take a big hit. This combination is the same combination found in other great players like Steven Jackson, Larry Johnson and Jamal Lewis. He’s a great fit for Tennessee because he complements LenDale White well. It’s a big change to step back. As he learns to find holes in the NFL and learns to be a blocker, he will improve greatly. Look for Henry to someday be a ‘giant’ in Tennessee’s running game.
Henry was recently afflicted. He received a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. One of those, where he grasped something, and did not know everything in substance. Henry is appealing the suspension and the Titans are confident that this is not a permanent problem.
I really look forward to seeing Henry emerge as a great back in the NFL. The Titans took a bit of a risk by drafting with a lack of collegiate experience. However, his speed and power made him an NFL player. Look forward to the future for Titans running back Chris Henry.
