One of the coolest factories to visit in Shelburne, Vermont is the “Vermont Teddy Bear Factory.” It is the greatest place to take your children, friends, and family to build your own personalized teddy bear, take a tour of the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory itself and have a great time. I know I sure did when I went and I am 22 years old, but I love teddy bears anyways so it would be fun for me.
The Vermont Teddy Bear Factory is located on Route 7 in Shelburne, Vermont. It is open seven days a week from nine in the morning until five in the evening. The price of a ticket to go on a tour of the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory cost around two dollars for adults and for children it’s pretty much free. If you want to make a bear there however the cost can vary, but it’s really fun to do.
When you first enter the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory you will notice a front desk where you purchase the tickets for the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory tour. However the tickets do not look like tickets. The tickets look like yellow buttons that you are asked to hook onto your shirt during the tour. Once you have your yellow buttons you will stand in a waiting area where there are tons of different teddy bears to look at in all different sizes, shapes, and colors with their own little personalities to them. Then when it’s your time to take the thirty minute tour of the factory the red doors will open and a lady will come out and ask if you are ready to take a tour of the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory and will escort you into the factory where you will see where the Vermont teddy bears are made, fixed, and live until they find a home. During the tour you will receive a fuzzy piece of fabric that is cut into a shape of a bear, but in the center of where the bears face is suppose to be there is a hole where your suppose to hook the bear to the yellow button your suppose to be wearing. At the end of the tour you will be escort back out into the waiting room area where you can make your own bear.
Now if you want to make your own bear it will cost around fifty dollars to do because you have to stuff the bear, sew the bear, and find cloths for the bear to wear, because the rule there is your not allowed to leave with a bear who is wearing nothing. In order to make your bear you first need to pick out the kind of bear you would like to make and the color you want your bear to be. However you will notice that every bear will have the same color eyes and have the words Vermont Teddy Bear Factory written inside their eyes lightly so you can always remember where you made your bear. Once you have chosen your teddy bear out will be asked to pick out a heart for your teddy bear and make a wish. Once you make a wish for your bears heart you will then go over to the stuffing station and begin filling your bear up with fluffy white stuffing. Then once your bear is filled up with stuffing you will go over to a table where a lady sits with a needle and thread and have her sow your bear up. Then once your bear has a heart, is stuffed and sowed up you will go over to an area where you can pick out cloths, shoes, and accessories for your bear in order to give them a personality. Once you have dressed your bear up you will then take it to the front desk where you purchased your tour tickets and have a birth certificate made up for your bear with its name and birth dates on it, and then it will be places in it’s traveling home box that is filled with games to keep the bear busy well you travel home with it to snuggle and love. It’s really fun to do!
After you have toured the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory and have made your teddy bears you will be able to go outside and take pictures of yourself by placing your face inside a teddy bear statue so you have a picture to remember your fun trip.
