Alright, so you’ve finally worked up the nerve to visit a naturist resort-in layman’s terms-a nude resort. This might be a little scary to think about. But once you realize that tons of other “imperfect” people are going to be romping about with you, it’s not so bad anymore. The question now is: Where do you go? There are actually several naturist beaches and resorts in the United States, and more than double that in other parts of the world. Take a peek at this list, and check out potential spots to toss your clothing out the window…
1- Haulover Beach (Miami, FL -U.S.)
This is one of the more popular clothing optional beaches in the United States. As a matter of fact, it is considered the most popular one in North America. It’s a nice stretch of sandy beach and warm water between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic. For a quick and quiet peek at this kind of lifestyle, Haulover is perfect.
2- Mazo Beach (Wisconsin River, WI – U.S.)
This public nude beach is the only legal one in the United States upper Midwest. The rumor is that students of architect genius, Frank Lloyd Wright first started the trend of sunbathing nude here. There is still some local controversy over whether people should be allowed to sunbathe naked at the beach. But thus far, no legislation has passed to indicate otherwise.
3- Black’s Beach (La Jolla, CA – U.S.)
Black’s Beach is more than likely the largest clothing optional beach in the United States. Set north of downtown La Jolla, nude sunbathing is actually illegal in the part of the beach which resides within the city of San Diego. But most sunbathers ignore this minor detail, and shed their clothing anyway. There have been no reports of people being arrested. And the beach is registered with The Naturist Society.
4- Zipolite, Oaxaca (Mexico)
Once you cross the Southwest border, you can shed your skivvies and dive into the waters of Zipolite in Mexico. Since nudity is not banned, only “immorality” is-it’s the absolute perfect place to test the waters (pun intended.) In truth, nudism has been in effect for more than three decades on this beach, and thus has been a major draw for die-hard nudists.
5- Firefly Beach, Negril (Jamaica)
Of course you could not have a list of naturist resorts without mention of Jamaica. Though many of the nude resorts are in fact, private resorts catering to an “adult” crowd-there is one nudist beach open to the general public: Firefly Beach. This beach is filled with quaint cottages and vacationing accommodations. The naturist aspect is actually “second-nature” in this part of the world.
6- Wreck Beach, British Columbia (Canada)
This beach is actually part of Pacific Regional Park, west of Vancouver. The clothing optional sections of the resort are clearly marked. And while visiting, don’t be surprised if “unofficial” vendors attempt to sell you drinks, snacks, alcohol, or even marijuana. It is customary for those visiting the beach to join in the nudist environment, as opposed to gawking at the unclothed. For this reason, many local students are drawn to Wreck Beach.
7- Mar Bella Beach, Barcelona (Spain)
If you really want to express yourself, you’ll take off for Barcelona. In actuality, there are no laws against public nudity, as long as it does not cause a disturbance (Imagine that!). And the most popular clothing optional beach here is the Mar Bella. One hint to the wise: You’ll want to take a map with you on your journey to Spain, especially if you happen to take the Metro. There are no visible signs pointing the way to the Mar Bella Beach.
As you can see, this world is practically chock full of locations where being the buff is not considered offensive. As a matter of fact, it seems that more and more places are allowing nudity as a “way of life”, and not just a condition for “adult” entertainment. Many naturist resorts cater to family life, and encourage activities which promote a healthy active lifestyle.
