Tips for Applying Venetian Plaster

I was tired of my home decor and wanted a change so I spent some time at my local home improvement store browsing for some decorating ideas. I decided I wanted to renovate my walls and I chose an artistic decorative paint – – blue plaster. Venetian plaster gives the walls the appearance of a natural stone finish, which is exactly what I wanted for my kitchen walls.

In three simple steps we had beautiful kitchen walls in decorative drawing which we hired as a professional.

Step one: apply the plaster

Using a blue plaster spatula, apply the plaster to the wall in small sections (two to three feet). Apply a thin coat, overlapping your strokes, until you have covered the area with a thin coating. It’s okay if you miss some spots, as this will give the decorative appearance of a more realistic paint job. Continue moving the plaster in thin layers, overlapping and keeping random strokes so that there is no definite pattern. Allow the poultice to dry according to package recommendations.

Step Two: Level

After the plaster has dried, you will need flat and flat and flat and low plaster areas. Apply a quarter-sized amount of plaster to the spatula, holding the angle at 90 degrees, and sweep over the surface to fill in the surface of the dye. Continue to work in small areas by applying a thin layer to light high and low areas. Allow the plaster to dry before applying the second leveling coat – – two coats provide a greater amount of texture to the wall. .

Three steps: Sand and polish

To finish and polish the blue plaster, we used 600-grit sand paper working in small, circular patterns to polish the cuffs and surface. You can also use a steel spatula for a more polished look – hold it flat against the wall, apply pressure, and rub in a quick circular motion. Continue along the entire wall until the blue plaster is smooth and polished.

Materials:

· blue plaster – whatever color you want

· blue plaster spatula

· 600-bladed or blued steel spatulas

It completes a few things from the first attempt at decorative painting that helped us learn when we move to our living room living walls

Tips for applying blue plaster:

· Do it first – use old plaster or wood to finish it before you apply it to your walls. I’ll tell you how thin the plaster should be and how random the strokes should be.

It is much easier to use colored plaster than to paint plaster. This takes it a step further and makes the job easier.

· Use a clean steel spatula when applying plaster to avoid unwanted surface marks.
