So you’ve created some beautiful jewelry that you’d like to sell on Etsy or eCrater, but you need great photos. The good news is that since digital cameras have become so affordable, it’s easy to take great photos of jewelry and other small items.
What do you need
A digital camera with a “macro setting”, this setting allows an object less than 3 feet away to be in sharp focus.
On a tripod When you take these pictures from close up, you don’t need a big fancy tripod, you can find inexpensive tripods in any store that sells cameras digital.
The light of the tabernacle. You can buy these, but I’m going to tell you how to make one almost for free.
We went out. This can be a nice piece of paper or fabric, and try to keep it simple. A bright color or bold pattern can distract from your decor.
Hang your things from objects. This is especially useful in earrings that do not photograph well. You can use an earring stand, lace, or mesh tulle fabric (my favorite choices).
Lights. You need to have a lot of light when you take your photos. I use light bulbs for the two desk lamps.
editing a photo. You often need to crop, resize, or adjust colors in your images. I recommend GIMP, it’s a powerful image editor and completely free.Build a light tent – Method 1
This is a method for building a light tent for flat photography items.
Materials
cardboard box big enough to fit your accessories and not too long to place a camera tripod on top. the summit
Thin white fabrics or paper.
Glue, or tape.
A box cutter or other sharp knife to cut the box. Cut the top and bottom of the box completely off. Cut the window in four parts leaving at least a 1 inch border around it. Attach the fabric or paper to the box for each of the four windows using either glue or tape. Make sure you can stretch the paper or fabric tightly across each window, without wrinkling. You can now place the light tent directly over your kit and have the photo viewed from above.
Build a light tent – Method 2
This method is for photographing standing or hanging items.
Materials
Strong cardboard a box large enough for your jewelry to be hung freely or placed inside on a string.
Thin white fabrics or paper.
Glue, or tape.
A box cutter or other sharp knife for cutting the box.
Floral or 22 gauge thread (optional) Place your box with the flaps open against you and in the position you want to stand when you take your photos. Cut the windows with 1 inch on the top of the top, on the left, and on the right side of the box. No, or the back should not fall off. Adhere fabric or paper boxes across the four windows using either glue or tape. Make sure you can stretch the paper or fabric tightly across each window, without wrinkling.
If you want the option of hanging gems, now is the time to add satellites. You can cut holes in the sides or run back to the ribbon or fabric to pass the ribbon or fabric through and then tie it at the back. You can also create fire loops to either hang your jewelry directly or tie a ribbon or fabric for hanging.
Place your real backdrop in the middle of the box using sticky tape or double-sided tape on the back and place your tripod on the front looking through the flaps You may have to adjust your tripod or set your light tent on top of some books to get it the perfect height.
Images received
Step 1: Set your camera to the highest quality images it is capable of. In my case that is 4 mega-elements.
Step 2: Set up the tent, lights, and tripod. The lights should be against the translucent sides of the light box. Adjust them until they do not cast strong or multiple shadows within the light of the tent.
Step 3: Configure red-light-cameras settings, choose most cameras from different light settings such as direct sun, indirect sun, glowing, fluorescent lights. Choose the one that most closely matches the type of lights you will be using.
Step 4: Place your ornament in the background of the light tent to your heart’s content. Adjust your camera until your kit is fully assembled.
Step 5: Check that you have Macro turned on in the settings and click on the button. Take your photos. If your camera has a timer, use it by setting a delay to shake the camera when you snap the picture.
Step 6: Transferring your photos to your computer.
