Tips for picking out your child’s mattress

Choosing the right mattress for your baby’s bed can be very confusing. Since we spend a lot of time sleeping in our lives, it is important to get a mattress that provides all the support we need. That being said, here is some advice on choosing the right mattress topper.

Size
There are many sizes in the layers. Cribs, twins, full and even larger sizes like queen and king. When choosing a mattress, keep in mind the child’s age and height. Just as a child who is taller will benefit from a longer twin mattress, so there is extra room for the next child to grow.

Material
When you find a mattress you want, ask what kind of material is in the mattress. Many are made from polyvinyl chloride, which release chemical emissions such as carcinogens. You can look for layers that are made from green material, such as organic cotton. Usually these layers are signed with a safe certificate.

Use or Know

The next option is new or used. When you buy used, make sure it’s from a reputable store that requires sanitation before sale. It’s best not to buy from someone you don’t know because it may contain bacteria from previous owners. It has been said that mattresses used in cribs are linked to higher SIDS infant deaths. Either this or a good friend you know and trust well. New mattresses are often sold out and may be the best option for your children.

Plastic or not

When you have small children that you need to potty training, it will be best to find a mattress that has a plastic cover. and if you can’t find one maybe a plastic sheet with it to keep your mattress.

Be your help to the boy

Having your child help pick the mattress can make bedtime more interesting and fun. They will enjoy reading from their favorite cartoon characters or happy patterns.
