Whether you’re new to stained glass art or have been around for years, it’s always great to learn some helpful ways to make the job easier and save money too. Many of the supplies we use for the miller’s diet can be found at your local grocery store!
One of the biggest investments you make in this hobby is acquiring tools. As we always tell folks, buy the best art you can afford. Good stuff last time , and do your best. One of the most expensive and heavy stained glass tools power in your studio is chilled water. grinding glass We love the Witcher series of grinders from the inside out, and we highly recommend them for both beginning glass hobbyists and professional glass artists.
Once you have your mill, you’ll want to make sure you keep it in good running order and also use it most efficiently. During our time running the stained glass studio, my husband and I discovered some “secrets” that make the process buzz. easier and more efficient, and they also help to keep our mills in top working order. I would like to share twelve of them:
1. Always wear protective glasses when wearing glasses!
2. To prevent your diamond from catching on the shaft, making it very difficult to remove, petroleum jelly as directed when you change bits and use a lot.
3. Avoid stripping the Allen screw that holds the bit on the shaft of your grinder. Always clean the screw hole before inserting the Allen key. The perfect crunch works perfectly!
4. Remember that the grinder bit must be installed on the shaft as far as it will fit. When you see signs of wear on the bit, move it enough to expose the “new” surface. You should do this 3 times per bit.
5. Always ease the edges of your glass before grinding. Keeps in reserve band.
6. To help prevent your contours from washing away, lightly apply lip balm to the lines. This protects them and allows you to see clearly to cut them off.
7. The spelling of the grinding bit is often used as a sign. Often only one spot is rubbed into a piece, but every piece is crushed upon impact.
8. Clean the grinder’s face protector every so often, so that you can see what you are planning.
10. Glass grinder residue can damage your motor, so always keep water a clean and gunk-free reservoir.
11. Next time clean your water tank When grinding, use a spatula to scrape off the glass residue.
12. If you see album, build a buzz around your head as you work You need to add more water to the grinding tank.
Hope some of these tips are new to you. If you practice all of them, they will make your grinding easier and will also help you protect your stained glass grinding wheel from permanent damage.
