Probably the greatest moment in the history of American sports, Mike Eruzione scored a 3rd period spurt that put the US over the hated Russians, and finally to the gold medal when the team did not expect to earn a medal. And it happened at the NY tourist site, Lake Placid. You can go back to where the magic happened and take in a really beautiful city while you’re at it. Here are some tips.

The first thing to consider is your accommodations. Directly in Lake Placid, they can be expensive. Just think of staying outside Lake Placid on Saranac Lake. It’s only a 10 minute walk to Lake Placid, and there are terrific hotels. My husband and I have stayed and will be staying again at the Sara-Placid Motor Inn. Very interesting. It means you’ll be driving to Lake Placid, because you’ll be able to walk to the site from your hotel, but you’ll be save money during your stay.

Second, and closely related, is that you want to start your day early. The only downside is that it’s not in Lake Placid
plenty of parking available. Once in your car you can leave the place all day, but there can be a trick. There are two public ones
parking lots, but once those are full, good luck to you. The secret is to remember to fill lots quickly. If you plan to spend your day in Lake Placid, visiting the actual sites, make sure you start early to leave your car.

There is only so much to see in Lake Placid, and each site has an entry fee that you must pay. Unless you know this last one. When you get to Lake Placid, make sure you stop at the main beach. When you do that, you will go and ask for homework. What you’re going to get is like a regular passport, but for $20, you’ll either get free admission or a tour of several places, such as ski jumping, bobsledding, and many others. Going to the top ski jump is quite a sight to see, as it is familiar to all other Olympic venues. Paying one fee to cover multiple sites is a great way to see everything for a small fee.

Finally, make sure to take an Adirondack Scenic Tour. It’s not disgusting, but if you can handle it, it’s worth it. For a nominal fee, fly in a 3-person airplane to take in about 20 minutes of sightseeing Adirondack Mountains. My husband and I were there on this last trip, and let me tell you, the views were absolutely breathtaking. Fly over these beautiful peaks, making memories that will last a lifetime. You don’t want to miss yourself.

Lake Placid is a beautiful place to visit. Whether you’re a game nut or a big stage fan, you’ll have a great time. To enjoy
