Television is a big part of American media. The premise is to take everyday people or celebrities and put them in “real life” situations. I TV about everything; I love seeing people at their best and worst, be it through competition or everyday life. But every good reality TV show needs a really good TV theme song to hook viewers.
Reality TV Theme Songs Top Ten – # 1: American Idol
This is the best theme song for TV in my opinion. Every time the score opens, I find myself belting out “Ahhhhhhhhhhhh…” and it drives my husband crazy. He is a capable opener and sets the stage for talented and non-talented singers.
Reality TV Theme Songs Top Ten – # 2: My Fair Brady
This season is by far the best TV theme song of all time. The song “London Bridge is Falling” put the lyrics “To B—- and Burp are still his thing/Even so he got a ring/Guess this ain’t without a TV splash/My beautiful Brady.”
Top Ten Reality TV Theme Songs – #3: The Intervention
I love this reality TV theme song because the instrumental and the tempo of the music fit the mood of the show. The theme is fast and it runs throughout the entire show with a life document attached. At the end of the show with heads tied to the rear, there is an upbeat theme but a slower tempo that conveys a feeling of relief and hope – like things will be fine from that point on.
Reality TV Theme Songs Top Ten – #4: Scott Baio is 45 and Single a> u>
So it’s not really a theme song, it’s more of a monologue theme, but it’s a perfect fit. In each of the shows last week, Scott intimately revealed his hang-ups about past girlfriends through an intro, which led to his own hang-ups about marriage and commitment. It’s an interesting way to connect with viewers and engage them each week. He also continued the monologue at the beginning of the new season, entitled “Scott Baio is 46 and Pregnant”.
Reality TV Theme Songs Top Ten – # 5: Dog The Bounty Hunter
What’s better than a custom written TV show? How customarily written is a song that strikes fear into the hearts of criminals. This song by Duane “The Dog” Chapman suits you. It’s a little odd that the theme song for his show is that A&E; It was previously announced that it is back in production this week.
Reality TV Theme Songs Top Ten – # 6: Hell’s Kitchen a>
What’s not to love about this TV theme song? The essential words of the song are “fire” and laughter and to recognize the person of Gordon Ramsay, the song is a perfect fit. TV hell is really Gordon Ramsay in the kitchen; fire and heat are the best words to describe the pressure that the most famous chef is trying to impress. The theme song probably could have been better, but it couldn’t have been more perfect for the theme of Gordon Ramsay’s cooking competition.
Top Ten Reality TV Theme Songs – #7: Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader
I think this reality TV theme song is pretty cute. According to IMDB, a children’s choir in California provides the voice for the lyrics. This all sounds a bit premature, but when you see so many adults doing bad things on the show it puts things in perspective.
Reality TV Theme Songs Top Ten – #8: Survivor
This reality TV theme song was so popular when Survivor first hit the airwaves, it released the sound of tribal music from the popular song. The Survivor theme song is a reality TV classic.
Top Ten Reality TV Theme Songs – #9: The Osbournes
This reality TV theme song is a cover of Black Sabbath’s “Crazy Train” by Pat Boone. The Osbournes are totally crazy and dysfunctional, but they really love the classic feel that Pat Boone brings to the song. It feels like the show will be relegated to a 50’s kind of family, but then you’re introduced to the Osbournes’ cast, who are clearly not Ward and June Claver.
Reality TV Theme Songs Top Ten – #10: Hogan Knows Best I think I actually enjoy the visual intro to the show more than the reality TV theme song, but the two work well together. You see the helm trying to get the family coordinated and the theme music is fast and energetic. It makes sense for a family dynamic.
