Having a discussion about Redgage and then discussing the best songs of the past year, I decided to compile my own list. Here are twenty songs that I felt stood out in 2008;
20. Cold Playperdi from the album Viva La Vida: “Every river that I’ve tried to cross. Every door that I’ve tried is closed. Oh and I’m just waiting. ‘Tis to to shine.’ I’m not a huge Coldplay fan because most of the stuff sounds the same, but for some reason this song grabs my attention. I like the simplicity of it and it slowly builds to a conclusion. 2008 was a rough year for a lot of people and this song perfectly describes the feeling of despair.
19. Boy Idol John Wayne from the album Idols You: 80 star Idol. He released this single in his latest greatest hits collection. The track uses an epic guitar line giving it an eighties rock feel but in typical idol fashion it uses a power ballad chorus that I can’t help but sing along to . “I’m not afraid. I won’t go down in fate. It’s not going to be the same.”
18. Innerpartysystem’s Don’t Stop from the Innerpartysystem album: the best this year, this one stands for a unique instrument.” The song comes back and forth between tough melodies to non-stop electronic beats. “The road I walk is paved with gold to glorify the soul through platinum.”
17. Dark Lotus Withered from the album Opaque Fratrum: “Like a red silk sunset, the formation of clouds. You are cold in the moment until there are none left. Dark Lotus manages to keep things slow for the heaviest track of his career. The poetic lyrics and slow bending bassline make it a song you won’t easily forget.
16. Janet Jackson Rock With U from the album discipline: “Turn around. Talk to your body. Don’t do anything to say at all.” Hit the dance so you can’t help but move. Simple lyrics and to the point.
15. Papa Roach Hollywood Still labeled a whore from the advent: Papa Roach is over. year on a high note with their latest single, a critique on the showbiz world and the heavy partying. The song has great guitar work and rock beat “There are cameras and no one is screaming. He couldn’t survive 15 minutes of fame.”
14. Boondox’s Death Hater from the album Krimson Creek: “Ya had your chance to save the sun and now you’re in the rain. I’m the Scarecrow but the one who sent you the brain.” Boondox one of the few hip-hop cds this year he had worth listening to and this track is one of the many highlights. . A beautiful song of revenge.
13. ABK’sTere 2 The Flow from the album Mudface: I didn’t like this song when I first heard it but it quickly grew on me and I think it’s a great song. It has a throwback sound to the early hip days. the life you live is it true or are you flattering?
12. Offspring Your Gonna Go Away, Kid from the album Rise and Fall, Wrath and Grace: Knowing that Offspring is finally returning to the airwaves. “Another clever word sets the unwary herd. As he brings his foot to the line, the crowd leaps to his feet.” The song moves through several different genres with a killer beat.
11. Kardinal Offishall’s Dangerous from the album Not 4 Sale: A percussive club track with another standout Akon chorus. “If I were the last man on earth, I would take that girl just to end my quest.”
10. Apocalyptica nolo from the album Collido mundi: Apocalyptica is known for its unique instrumental metal and this song does not confuse with cell work and pounding sound. . I love the song’s initial buildup and slow fade. “If he’s dead or still alive. I don’t care, I don’t care.”
9. Unforgettable Self Indulgence I Never Wanted To Dance from the album If: MSI came to this album on its own and this was the track. MSI’s music has a mix of electronic, punk, metal and hip. “You can do nothing that has not already been done by me.”
8. Alice Cooper (Touching) Your Feminine Side from the album Next to the Spider : Cooper finally returned to the roots of crash rock on this album and created a story about the serial killer Spider who ends up falling as the last victim. This track especially stands out because of its old school rock feel and heavy guitar work. “It’s your world, but it’s my way.”
7. Cyndi Lauper’s put it down from the album Ya to the Brink: Unfortunately I have to skip this album but I will definitely check it out. It’s easily the best dance cs in years. This track has a great chorus and a great bass line that fades in and out of the song. It’s one of those songs that can’t help but move. “Fist of passion against the wall. Machine kisses. They rise and fall.”
6. Disturbed Fire withine list indelible: “Devon is beyond this gate. Take the immortal word.” Killer song, killer video, killer lyrics. What more can be said?
5. Pipes N’ Roses Sorry from the album Chinese Democracy: “I don’t care about the pressure of hell”. The long awaited cd includes several gems on this track, which is another ballad classic. No one has a more unique voice than Axl Rose and he uses it to the full effect of this beauty.
4. PinkSober from the album Funhouse: Pink is one of the few credible pop singers “> the singers left behind and his musical talents continue to change and grow with each album he releases. This one about being the only sober person at the party does a great job as the gravity of the material and Pink’s voice build the song towards the end of the show. “No pain inside, you look like perfection. But how do I feel this good sober?”
3. Metallica’s The Day That Never Comes from the album Magnetic Death: “Cross this line. Just sit this time.” A huge track lighting the soldiers in Iraq. The song has a little bit of everything: the melodic chorus, the great guitar and drum work and the head portion of the covers, which rocks.
2. Madonna Miles from the album Hard Candy: In a slow solo moment on the new CD, Madonna uses the song to illustrate what the end of marriage is. . The song does a great job of exploring long distance love. “You always have the biggest heart when you’re six miles away.”
1. Slipknot’s Psychosocial from the album all hope is lost: The Rock hard‘s song of the year and mosheri’s dream. This single is highlighted by moving from head banging to a melodic chorus and back again. “And the rain will kill us all. If we throw it against the wall.”
