5. “Moby Dick Strikes” was the fourth episode of the second season and aired on March 23, 2009. During this episode, Dwayne Dethlefs who is an expert cutter is told to go work on the landing which ticks him off. Dwayne had been having disagreements with Keith about how the timber was supposed to be cut. He was not happy about being on the landing and let everyone know it. Jimmy and his son James were arguing as usual about how to get a big log nicknamed “Moby Dick” out of the river and onto the shore. Craig Rygaard and his son Gabe were arguing about greenhorn Brad because he was constantly slacking and could not do the job.
4. “The Ax Falls” was the eighth episode of the second season and aired on April 27, 2009. This episode had the blow out of the season between greenhorn Brad and his boss Craig Rygaard. Craig had a wrench in his hand at the time and Brad said that he did not respect him at all and then quit at the end of the day. Jesse Browning was in a bad mood again as the crew yet again had equipment problems. Conner aviation pilot Steve yet again had issues with air sickness so his boss decided to fire him and look for another pilot. One of the Pihl cutters went missing at the end of the episode.
3. “Storm of the century” was the eleventh episode of the first season and aired on May 18, 2008. This episode documented the terrible storms that occurred in the Northwest in 2007. Many of the loggers struggled to find ways to avoid the torrential floods and worried about what their futures would hold since many of the logging roads were washed out.
2.”Initiation Day” was the second episode of the second season and it aired March 9, 2009. This episode had series favorite Pihl cutter Dwayne Dethlefs due to the fact that his boss Mike Pihl had lied about what he wanted done to the trees. Dwayne said that Mike told him to just cut down the trees and not buck them and Keith was getting mad because the trees were too large and needed to be bucked. Dwayne and Mike got into a war of words and Dwayne walked off the job. Dustin looked on in disbelief and wanted to fix things between his dad and Mike. Jimmy Smith had mechanical issues as did the Browning crew.
1. “Fresh Meat” was the ninth episode of the second season and aired on May 4, 2009. This is the number one episode because it showed the entire Pihl crew searching for their missing cutter, Sean. This episode showed how dangerous logging really can be they also talked about an expert cutter who was harmed by a falling tree and ended up having a stroke. Dwayne headed the search for Sean and he has seen people die in the woods so you can understand how he feels. Luckily, Sean was found in another ridge but this was the standout moment of the series thus far. The Rygaards got a new greenhorn named Austin’ he has a great attitude but is not great in the woods. Conner aviation got a new pilot named Ron and the Brownings struggled with mechanical issues again.
