Are you headed to the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, for a motorsports event this year? While you’re in the area, you may want to check out one of these top five restaurants:
1. Bay Breeze of South Atlanta Seafood Restaurant
The Bay Breeze of South Atlanta Seafood Restaurant is located on Tara Boulevard. It is just a quick 5 minute drive from the Atlanta Motor Speedway. It tends to open Tuesday through Friday at 11 a.m. and on Saturday at 3 p.m. It also opens on Sundays at 11 a.m. You can even get take-out. The restaurant features both broiled and fried foods. Those that are looking to enjoy fried foods may want to consider ordering the special. It’s slightly less than $15 and comes with deviled crab, scallops, oysters, flounder, clam strips and popcorn shrimp.
2. Grandstand’s Bar and Grill
Grandstand’s Bar and Grill is also located on Tara Boulevard. The place has a casual and sporty vibe with reasonably priced foods. Sometimes you can take advantage of specials like 20 chicken wings for $20. It is a good place to go if you want to get in a game of pool. Hours of operation vary, so it’s best to call ahead.
3. Folks Southern Kitchen
Are you craving some down home country dishes that won’t leave your wallet weeping? Check out the Folks Southern Kitchen on Highway West in McDonough. It is roughly a 15 minute drive from the Atlanta Motor Speedway. You can get a double helping of country fried steak for less than $10. It typically comes with two sides and an order of bread. It usually opens at 11 a.m. Sunday through Saturday.
4. O.B.’s BBQ
Is barbecue more your speed? Then I’d suggest that you turn your wheels towards O.B’s BBQ on Industrial Boulevard in McDonough. It will generally take you 15 minutes to get there from the speedway. You might want to try the smokehouse triple or the ultimate combination platter. The combination platter comes with jumbo shrimp, a catfish fillet, chopped pork and three fall-off-the-bone smoked pork ribs. Hours of operation vary, so it’s best to call ahead.
5. Chevy’s Diner
Looking for a great burger served up with a side of 1950s nostalgia? Well, you can’t go wrong by making the 20 minute drive to Chevy’s Diner on Macon Street in McDonough. It opens daily at 11 a.m. and features all the classic, American comfort foods you could hope for. There are juicy burgers, hot dogs, Buffalo wings and more. I’d suggest you consider ordering the James Dean Giant ($9) and a 20 ounce malt ($5) to wash it all down. The James Dean Giant is a ½ pound burger smothered in mushrooms, bacon and cheese served up with an order or crispy fries.
