In my experience, planning a space themed, children’s birthday party can be a lot of fun. The theme tends to open up a world of possibilities when it comes to party favors. With that said, here’s a quick rundown on a few space themed party favor ideas that I have used in the past:
Candy Rockets
One space themed party favor option is to create candy filled rockets. Based on my experience, empty Pringles potato chip canisters work well as the rocket body. Just cover the outside of the canister with construction paper and use card stock to create the rocket’s top and side fins. In my opinion, Astro Pops, Pop Rocks, Moon Pies, Moon Rocks and Moon Dust candy would work well as the candy filling. I’d also recommend using Starburst, Milky Way and Mars Bars too. Party favor bags tend to sell online for less than $2 apiece and candy prices vary greatly.
Astronaut Training Kit
An astronaut training kit would also work well as a space themed party favor. In order to create one, you’ll need a bunch of blue gift bags, NASA stickers, packets of freeze-dried ice cream and a star map or a planisphere. I’d also suggest that you throw in a mini telescope and a bag of magic sand. Many of those items can be purchased through online specialty or party supply stores. Prices for each vary.
Flying Saucer
Why not create a flying saucer as a space themed party favor? I’d recommend that you buy a bunch of inexpensive flying discs and decorate them with glow-in-the-dark star stickers or glow-in-the-dark paint. You could also create a space themed party game that would give the kids an opportunity to use their flying discs during the birthday party. Flying discs tend to sell for less than $5 each depending on the brand. They are available through discount stores, sports stores and department stores.
Alien Slime
In my opinion, a container of alien slime would make a great space themed party favor. You may opt to purchase ready-made alien slime through a party supply store or make your own. I have purchased ready-made slime for less than $12 a case (12 vials in a case). Recipes for making alien slime are available online. Most require the purchase of Borax Powder, food coloring and white glue. All three of those items may be obtained through major department stores. I estimate that a one pound box of Borax Powder, a box of food coloring and a container of glue will cost you less than $25. You might also want to consider pairing the alien slime with a container of Sea-Monkey’s and passing them off as baby aliens. Prices for basic Sea-Monkey’s kits vary but tend to average around $10 each.
Footprints on the Moon
One of the most iconic images of 1969 was Neil Armstrong’s footprint on the moon. With that said, why not let your child’s party guests create plaster of Paris footprints? The footprints could serve as your space themed party favor. The plaster can typically be purchases through most major department stores and craft stores for less than $20 a box.
